latest iTunes won't let me import single songs from CD

I have a MacBookPro with Mojave, and iTunes 12.9. In the past, when importing music from a CD, there were boxes along the left, next to each song title, that would allow me to pick and choose the songs I wanted to import. Those are gone, and I can't find them. Selecting individual tracks using the Edit function doesn't work. Can you please offer me advice about how to get these boxes back, and/or how to import single tracks.
