DVD player on macbook pro is not working

I recently got a refurbished MacBook pro and I tried playing a movie, but every time I insert a DVD, I can hear the disc spinning and it just ejects after a few seconds. If I pull up the DVD player, it says that "Supported Disc Not Available." I have tried multiple different DVDs and so far none of them have worked.
