Apple Music will not start playing when connected to bluetooth headphones

Whenever I am connected to my Sony WH-1000XM2 bluetooth headphones, Apple Music on Android will not play any tracks. When the play button is pressed, it immediately reverts to showing the pause button. This behaviour is common across both streamed and downloaded songs. However, when I start playing a song with bluetooth off, and then turn on bluetooth and connect the headphones, the remainder of the song plays fine. However, once the song finishes, I cannot replay it or play the next track.

Other music streaming services, YouTube and apps are not affected by this problem so it is specific to Apple Music. My headphone firmware is up to date, as are the Android OS on my phone (Sony Xperia XZ Premium), and the Apple Music app.

Fixes would be appreciated, as I prefer Apple Music over the other streaming services, but it is currently unusable... Thanks!

This is probably because of Sony headphones using LDAC codec by default. Apple devices don't support the format yet so, I assume same thing applies for Apple iTunes service.

This could be fixed if you change the codec used in your Android phone. Go to developer menu and change your codec to AptXHD and the app plays music just fine.
