Text tone will only play default

I have an iPhone 8 with iOS 12.1. I am trying to change the text alert/vibration for one person in my contacts. It is showing a different tone, but will only altert me with the same default sound set for everyone else. I have restarted my phone multiple times as well as a hard reset (volume up, down, power button). I am able to change the sound for all of my incoming texts, but not for the one contact.

I understand that you want to set a text tone for a specific contact. The following guide can help you do so:

Use tones and ringtones with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

You can also set a Ringtone or Text Tone for a specific contact: In the Contacts app, find and tap the specific contact, then tap Edit in the upper-right corner. Tap Ringtone or Text Tone, then choose a new sound.
