iBooks Notes Disappeared

Hi all.

I've spent a couple of days now making notes in a book I'm editing in iBooks on my iMac. As I sync everything between my two macs with iCloud, I took my laptop out to continue making notes today, and opened the book. The new notes I'd made didn't appear, but worse, when I went back to the version on my iMac (where I'd been making the notes) the book seemed to have synced with the version without notes, and I've lost them all.

Is there any way to get these notes back? Are past versions accessible somewhere? I've looked in ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.iBooksX/Data/Documents/AEAnnotation/ but it only shows the latest version without the notes.

Any help much appreciated. I'm about to break something.
