Can scan fingerprint by the “Face ID system” ?

I think we can open our x iPhone by the fingerprint? Is it possible?

If it can scan ours face, I think it can scan ours fingerprints.

Can I use face id on a fingerprint? I have not updated from an iPhone 8+ because I don't want to have to pick up my phone to unlock it with Face ID. Today I thought that maybe the IR reader in the newer phones might be able to map a fingerprint instead of a face. Has anyone done this? I'd like to have the better cameras available today, but I don't like Face ID at all.
