Macbook ejects cds and dvds without reading them. Help please as new to Mac

I think this will be an easy one for someone to solve.

I am new to Macs and have proberbly done this my self, but all was fine with my new Macbook until yesterday when it started to eject all disks withour reading them. I takes them in as normal and I can hear them spin for a second or two then they eject. No icon appears on screen. Why?

Between working fine and not working I played about with i-photo, trying some of the key commands etc. It was during that time it all went wrong. Something i did?

Macbook, Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Thanks for the effort Magnus, but it didn't help at all. All disks are new, the correct size and perfectly flat. The link seems to relate to powerbook and not macbook.

My machine is only 2 weeks old and went from working fine to not reading disks in a matter of an hour or two.

There must be someone other than me and the other poster that have found this.

Did you try as the article suggested, re-setting the PMU

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303319

and the PRAM.

This article also applies to the MacBook as these are corrective methods for both the PowerBook and the MacBooks. If this does not work your super drive may have gone south.

I just wanted to know if you solved the problem by trying de articles Magnus suggested or how did you do to make it work again. Please help me.

I also have a 1st gen Macbook, with a TOSHIBA MK8032GSX Media drive. I borrowed two VCDs from the library. The first disc would play, but when I inserted the second disc, it whirred for awhile and ejected. I tried this a couple times, but nothing changed. I then called Apple tech support, where the techie had me remove the battery and press and hold the power button for 10 seconds. Then she had me reset the PRAM by holding Command Alt+PR while I booted. Now both discs don't work!

(The discs work on a different computer)

Any ideas?

Well, I've done my research. Turns out we have 5 locations in Rio that handle Macs in general. Of those, none have recorded this issue as a frequent MacBook problem, though admittedly, they have seen few MacBooks at all.
One store promptly asked me to bring my computer in, they will look at it and in three days will give me a diagnosis.
Since mine is still in the warranty they would just replace the drive, no questions or explanations given.
Not very helpful, is it?

I've started having this issue as well. I bought a stack of mid-range DVD-Rs. I burned one successfully, but when it was finished, an error message came up, saying that the disc was "unreliable." After that, every DVD-R I try to use from this stack gets spit out.

I might buy a more expensive brand of DVD-R and see if it works, but the fact that there are no responses from Apple after all these complaints is worrying.

Hate to add to the numbers here, but I am experiencing the same problems. Any disc I insert, be it blank or otherwise, CD or DVD, is automatically ejected after a few seconds of churning and making noises. My Macbook is only 2 months old & superdrive has been working fine til a few days ago.

I have tried resetting the PMU and the PRAM, as suggested by First Magnus, but no luck.

I also tried removing any recently installed applications which may have affected the drive, but this had no affect. If it helps the applications I removed were MacTheRipper, DVD2OneX and Firefox.
