QuickTime 7.1.5 Gets ? in Q; can not play

Hi,
I down loaded QT 7.1.5 upgrade. Now all I get is a Q with a ? in it and can not play video or audio.

Any body know how to correct this? and what happened? bug in upgrade?

I deleted orginal, downloaded new copy several times, still no video/audio.

Thanks.

Flip4Mac informs me that the problem of Quicktime logo with ? mark is a Java issue. The problem started with the latest JAVA upgrade. Flip4Mac will release a new script in early April that will enable the Flip4Mac Internet plug-in to function. Meanwhile, I suggest that you uncheck the plug-in in your WMV preferences to allow you to receive and play streaming video using Microsoft's Windows Media Player, version 9, if you have it installed in your Mac. No other remedy can work, so you can stop waisting your time with installing and reinstalling Quicktime.

OMG ...... am I NOT the only schlemiel to get this??? No play no see no hear no nothing dead d e a d.

It's a NEW MacBook and no reason whatsoever for it to go ape on me.

N O N E.

I have been fighting with this OS and q.time for 5 hours and about to re re re install everything. Tried onyx and permission repair, TCC and more .. noted that this "? Q " appears in YouTube and Google. I use Quicktime Pro (kosher) and the vs is 7.16 not not QUITE 5. Anyhow it is driving me crazy.

If anyone has help or hope for me please email me! This mac is going to join the Dell from **** in the trash which is a shame 'cos it's kind of great for the video edits I do. CURSES.

A guy back in March had the answer that worked for me today. I'll quote what he said. I followed his directions and it worked. Once done with his instructions, I did have to quit Safari and restart her again. Good luck:

Go into the QuickTime area of System Preferences, and in the Advanced tab look at the Mime settings. Under Miscellaneous is Flash media, that should not be checked, unless you're an extreme optimist! QuickTime can only really handle Flash 5 or earlier movies, and Flash is currently on v9.

I am an optimist, really I am, and I believe the above solution, like many I've come across today regarding the problems borne in the QT 716 update of 5/1/2007 , probably did work for a few folks. What I don't understand about this "update" .....
(1) I had Player 9, QT 7, various other plug-ins, along with my preferences and the most current software updates, all set for the very choices that are now being suggested, by some writers here, as choices that didn't or were "lucky" to work with QT 7.1.5 (or the recent 7.1.6).
Yet, my system DID work -- fast, flawless, and on all cylinders. With the MayDay download of the QT 716 bomb, I've joined a cast of thousands who are suffering multiple handicapped points of their Mac's functionality.
(2) Why isn't my QT 7 working now? It was before the 7.1.6, it still ought to be.
(3) Why am I -- and others -- searching the web for a "workaround" in what is a much-vaunted application of Mac? If the update is buggy, admit that it is flawed and FIX IT.
Maybe we could offer a prize....
