QuickTime 7.1.5 Gets ? in Q; can not play

Hi,
I down loaded QT 7.1.5 upgrade. Now all I get is a Q with a ? in it and can not play video or audio.

Any body know how to correct this? and what happened? bug in upgrade?

I deleted orginal, downloaded new copy several times, still no video/audio.

Thanks.

Peter, I too have the ? in Q. I have a new Macbook with no additional software to interfere and suddenly I got the ? in Q after uploading a podcast. All previous had been OK. This was with the original Q without having downloaded any upgrade. Now all my podcasts have ? in Q on my mac but I can play them on my PC with Q. I have now downloaded 7.1.6, but with the same result. I've been through the procedure below. I am keen to know if anyone can play my podcasts on a mac with Q. I'd be glad if someone could try at web.mac.com/daveyesitsme

1) Open Quicktime System Preferences
2) Go to Advanced Panel
3) U-N-check Enable Flash
*4) Click Mime Settings
*5) Under Mime Settings: Click Restore Defaults

I believe Step 5 is the Key, Not 3.

Worled for me....(Remember this is all in System
Preferences -- not quicktime player preferences)

Peter,

I just wanted to say thank you so much for finding
out the solution. I tried the five steps you
suggested and QT now works perfectly (so far). I can
now enjoy sites like You tube once more. I owe you
one m8. Have a virtual pint on me.

Cheers 😀

OK
It could as easy as downloading Flip for mac then install.
If not you will be just like I was and you will have to do a lot of work to correct it I was in the phone with Apple care for ½ hr and then I had to spend the rest of the day working on finding the file responsible.
1. Go to Mac hard drive then your home folder then library then fined Preference folder change the name by adding old to the end (preferenseold) 2. Then log out then log in. Now the fun begins 3. Go to Safari then to web page like Goggle video if all is working 4. then go back to Mac HD then home folder > library > Preference > in a new widow go to Preference old select the first 7 files then press apple+I key then in the info window give each file a color then move files to the new preference folder then 5. log out then 6. log in 7. then go back to Safari then to web page like Goggle video if working 8. Go to new preference folder change back the colors then repeat steps 4>7 till the problem comes back then move all but one file to the desk top log out log in > web page if working add one file to you find the problem file when you do remove it to the trash then just for good luck repeat steps 4>7 with the rest of the files Have fun I know I did try looking fo apple.com.quicktime files first to reduce the steps a bit

You may be right Bertram, I doubt very much anyone from Apple or the QT team reads all these threads... but Im sure eventually it gets through to them - as they also use the same OS and software we all do... so it may just be a matter of time....

keep the faith
