Network connection timed out.

I'm unable to successfully use the iTunes Store. The following error occurs randomly, though it most often happen when searching and power searching, the progress bar on top will just never stop and the error message will display after about 30 seconds. It sometimes occur when browsing and clicking on links (the page will not load).

Here's the error message :
"We could not complete your iTunes Store request. The network connection timed out.
Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, then try again."

My internet connection is fine, I'm 100% positive about that. Unless it would have to do with firewall settings?

Something weird I've noticed about all this is that the error seems to happen way more often when searching on less known artists/songs than well know.

I'm using Windows Vista.

Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

I'm having the same problem too. If I click a link from the home page it goes through, but if I look up an artist through the search button I get the network connection timed out and my computer setting is active. What gives? Has anyone received any word on what the problem is? This has been a problem on my computer for the last few days. Has anyone had the problem corrected? I'm starting to think the problem lies with the itunes updated version, I noticed that since I've updated I now get this timed out error. Anyone else noticed that too?

I totally agree too! I haven't been having any problems with iTunes until I decided to download a song by Ferry Corsten and now this particular songs decided it wont download on ANY of my PCs. I have 4 with iTunes accounts and none seem to want to download properly they keep getting these darn network errors I've tried multiple ISPs and multiple means and I cant find a way to actually contact the iTunes service representatives and file a complaint and I'm just really getting angry at apple right now. I'm glad to see I'm not alone!

This is exactly what has been happening to me, ever since I downloaded the newest version - 7.1.1, I think.
My firewall settings allow all iTunes access and compatibility with iTunes and this has been happening on three different computers, all with different firewalls with all FW settings allowing iTunes content.
I especially notice that it times out when I am searching lesser known artists or when I get a result and try to view the "see all" section.
I received an email from iTunes telling me that everything was OK on their end and it has to be my set up. I don't think this is the case.

Hum... I'm unable to find this topic, though I hope
it is true.

It's hard to believe and stay calm when these persons
don't take you seriously. Here is what I received in
response to an e-mail I've sent them :

Dear xxxxxx,

I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble
connecting to the iTunes Store. I
understand you receive a "network connection
timed-out" error. I have verified
that the iTunes Store is functioning and accepting
connections, which indicates
that the issue is related to your internet
connection, local network, or your
local computer itself.

iTunes has a great new feature called Network
Diagnostics that can help you
diagnose and resolve issues that prevent you from
connecting to the iTunes
Store.

First, make sure you're using iTunes 7.0 or later,
which is available free of
charge at the Apple website:

http://www.apple.com/itunes/download

Now follow these steps to use Network Diagnostics:

1) Make sure that you have an active Internet
connection.

2) Open iTunes.

3) Choose Diagnostics from the Help Menu.

4) Select Network Diagnostics and click Run.

The Network Diagnostics interface will help you
identify and resolve any
network issues that are affecting your ability to
connect to the iTunes Store.

Please note that certain types of software can affect
the way a computer sends
and receives information from the Internet. Here are
a few examples of these
types of software:

* Virus and/or worm protection software
* Web accelerators
* Ad filters
* Firewalls

If you have any of this software, and if you cannot
access the iTunes Store,
you will need to configure these applications to
allow iTunes to connect to the
internet.

Please refer to the documentation that came with that
software, and if
necessary contact the software's manufacturer. You'll
need to configure the
software to allow these domains to send and receive
data from the Internet:

phobos.apple.com
phobos.apple.com.edgesuite.net

Thank you for contacting iTunes about this issue and
for using the discussion
boards as a resource to help with troubleshoot this
issue.

Sincerely,

xxxxxx

This is the email I received from iTunes, as well. It is useless. The problem is not on my end, but, rather, there must be some sort of bug in the new version. Everything was fine with the previous version. I ran the diagnostics and found no conflicts and, as I mentioned in my previous post, my firewall settings are all accepting iTunes content and activity.
This is a problem with the new version and not our computers or set up!

This problem has been happening to me for about a week now. I know it is not specific to ver.7.1.1, because I downloaded it today hoping that it would fix the problem. It did not. It mainly happens when I search, but also happens random other times. Frustrating! Please help! They need a new comercial with PC ripping Mac because he can't get a song without an error message! Haha!
