iPod Nano skipping songs

Hello all, I have an ipod shuffle and just got a new Nano. I use the same Macbook and same iTunes for both the Shuffle and Nano. The Nano skips songs or starts to play a song and then stops and starts playing the next song.

I reset the Nano, that didn't work, I did a complete restore, that didn't work. I contacted tech support and sent the Nano in for testing. Before I sent them the Nano, I gathered all the songs that the nano would skip and only put those songs on the Nano.

After Apple tested, they claim there was no problem. When I got the Nano back, they wiped all the songs off the Nano. I put music back on the Nano and still having the same problem. I had also bought my wife a nano and I put the same songs on her nano and got the same problem. I put the same songs back on the Shuffle and they played just fine.

Don't know what else to do. I can't return it because its engraved. Any help please??

I'm relieved that I'm not the only one who has this problem. I too also downloaded the new version to my iPod...and I think that is the problem. Because the first couple of songs I downloaded after that update are the ones skipping (and unfortunately my favorites). I have tried EVERYTHING...I also use Limewire, and thought that might be a factor but after reading everyone's comments it is most likely not. All of my other songs and Limewire songs work great...and on my computer as well. I have no clue about this one. Apple should be contacted on this one!
Any ideas anyone???

I am having the same problem. Song plays in iTunes, transfers to the Nano but skips every time. I jump through alot of the same hoops and still nothing (reset, deauth/auth, rebuild library). Finally I tried putting the song on my 5g video ipod and got the same problem.

I'm hoping this is a bug between the latest ipod update and itunes plus update, and that a patch will roll out soon because i have no more ideas

It's an epedemic! Are we all on 1st Gens? I am on a black 2gb nano, 1st gen. Resetting doesn't work. Here's my story.

Bought some songs, backed them up.
downloaded 7.2 iTunes.
Ipod no longer registered. Hmm. Download new software for iPod.
Okay.
Skipping mess.
It's odd, but some songs played fine but others just didn't go. My songs play fine on my computer. The CD's, I noticed, play through the entire song. I will try to load all of my CD's back on, probably. This is not caused by your actual songs. I just bought a tangible album the day this incident occured at my local record store, and it skips. Faulty programming.

But, do you see a pattern emerging? 7.2, they released iTunes Plus, where you have to pay 30% more for songs (after all, it adds up; 30% of $1,000 is $300 straight to iTunes). Then, on the same day, your iPod won't read the old edition of some of your treasured iTunes. Has anyone tried to listen to iTunes Plus on their iPods? To test the water, I bought one song to try out (Another Brick in the Wall, Part 1 by Pink Floyd; I remembered that Pink Floyd albums were previously upgraded from earlier today). Odd! It seems to be playing FLAWLESSLY, at 256 kbps, double any other bit rate at LEAST. Perhaps it's only just that one song, or maybe this is the plan for the lot of them. Since they reprogrammed the iPods (or at least nano)with to only read certain songs, namely iTunes Plus with only select others, will we have to upgrade in the future all of our songs? Even the ones we no longer own?

Accident or on purpose? I'll let you take your own guess at this one.

I'm having the same problems with my 3rd gen but it was happening before the last update and think it happens with different songs. I've just arranged for it to be repaired/serviced because i'd assumed there was something faulty with the ipod itself - is this likely to be a waste of time/am ilikely to be charged for sending it back when if it is a software problem?

In general, I'm wondering about the kinds of song skipping. Mine is one song from iTunes (regular fairplay v2).

Is anybody having this same problem with a song that they ripped from a CD or with and iTunes plus song? Or is it only with the regular fairplay songs from iTunes Music Store? I'm hoping to swing by the apple store tomorrow and check in the with the geniuses, and i want all the info i can get.

I FIXED MINE!!!

ok, so I broke it, then fixed it. XD. I unplugged it
when it said "Do Not Disconnect" and found that the
problematic CD was gone. I shut down my computer and
then I plugged it back in, it re-uploaded and then
worked fine, no more skipping!!!!!!

Okay, so basically you're saying to unplug it, shutdown the computer, and plug the iPod back in?? Or is there more to it. Hopefully this is a solution?

My brand new 8GB iPod nano (? gen.) was delivered today and I followed all the listed steps: installed the latest iTunes 7 software, connected the player to my laptop and charged the battery before transferring tracks etc. To start off, I imported several dozen 192 kbps MP3s that I made sure were all ripped from CDs I own, just to be on the safe side.

Upon finishing, I selected the shuffle songs option and sucessfully played the first track all the way through. The next one (incidentally from the same album) cut off after only a few seconds, however, and moved on to the next song, which played about halfway through before skipping on to the next, which abruptly... Well, you get the idea 😟

Tried an iPod restart without success before moving on to a restore and downloading my music library all over again. This time I got through the first three songs uninterrupted before the hiccups started yet again. If it weren't for this thread, I'd be convinced that I had been sent a defective product or done something wrong during setup.

Okay, I'm determined to make Apple aware of this wide-spread problem!!! Does anyone know how to contact them over e-mail? I swear, I've looked everywhere and I cannot find a specific e-mail to contact them with. I guess they're not a fan of e-mailing...Well if anyone knows how to contact them post on this thread because I've suscribed to it and always check back in.
Thanks.

Here's an idea. You guys sparked my imagination. Sadly, it will cost you. $10. Is that alright?

Go to your local Office Depot, Sam Goody, etc.

Buy a 30 pack of CD-R's.

Burn these CD's with your computer.

Erase your iTunes.

Restart.

Rip CD's back into iTunes.

Back up your songs systematically.

I will try this and respond on the results. And... success! It works! There ya are, folks. Just always keep your songs backed up, and you're good.

Well, I'm glad I'm not the only one with this problem. There was an album I downloaded form iTunes and none of the songs will play on my nano. They'll play on my computers, on my shuffle...but not on the nano. And it's just the ones from this one album.

And like the rest of you, I tried resetting, restoring, and any other number of things with nano and itunes--nothing worked.

SO, according to you, if I burn these songs to CD, then rip back to iTunes, all should be well? I'll certainly give it a try....

But it sure looks like somethings faulty in the Nano software--I hope they get a patch onto this bug soon.
