iPod Nano skipping songs

Hello all, I have an ipod shuffle and just got a new Nano. I use the same Macbook and same iTunes for both the Shuffle and Nano. The Nano skips songs or starts to play a song and then stops and starts playing the next song.

I reset the Nano, that didn't work, I did a complete restore, that didn't work. I contacted tech support and sent the Nano in for testing. Before I sent them the Nano, I gathered all the songs that the nano would skip and only put those songs on the Nano.

After Apple tested, they claim there was no problem. When I got the Nano back, they wiped all the songs off the Nano. I put music back on the Nano and still having the same problem. I had also bought my wife a nano and I put the same songs on her nano and got the same problem. I put the same songs back on the Shuffle and they played just fine.

Don't know what else to do. I can't return it because its engraved. Any help please??

Macbook, Mac OS X (10.4.9)

I was having issues when I ripped my cds using the .mp3 variable and constant bit rate. I am not too fond of having to swich my formats from .mp3 to .aac or .mp4, but if it allows me to listen to my cds on my ipod, I guess there is nothing else that can be done.

I did not have problems with the skipping on my shuffle or my Sony, but the 8 gig Nano was giving me trouble. It's nice to have fixed the problem, but Apple needs to fix this issue, so individuals do not have to re-rip everything into a different format.

I deleted the albums from my iPod and from the iTunes Library. I had the original cd's ripped by iTunes into the iTune laibrary. After that copied the albums in the normal way to the iPod and there she went! I'm glad i can tell you. Hope that at least some of you will be helped by this. <<</div>

So, you had the CD's already?

I'm really glad you found a solution. Alas, my problem is with songs I downloaded from the iTunes store. I've burned them onto CD's and tried putting them back on the Nano that way (i.e. erasing them from the library, and downloading them back into the library from CD)...doesn't help.

i just received a new Red 8GB Ipod nano as a gift.

my boyfriend told me how to work everything and i started loading songs ect...

any way, i clicked the synch button and nothing showed up saying that the ipod was syching. i called my boyfriend and he said that was normal..so i left the ipod connected and waited but nothing came up saying that it was done or anything, so i just clicked the disconnect ipod button and disconnected the ipod. after playing the music on the ipod i noticed some of the songs dont play entirely. they play almost the whole song but at the end they just cut off and go to the next song.

could this be because the whole song wasnt uploaded on the ipod? im a newbie at this kinda stuff, please help

Latest on my front: problem was definitely related to songs off iTunes. I got one of the songs that was skipping on my nano, the *same song* from the *same album* off someone else's CD and, low-and-behold...it did not skip.

No real surprise there. I suspected as much as the skipping songs all came off one album downloaded via iTunes. This just confirmed it. And made the situation very problematic. If songs off iTunes are gonna skip, that's going to temp people to buy or get the music elsewhere.

i have had this same problem, and i never tried to do anything about it until now. i tried removing songs that skipped and adding them back onto my ipod... didn't work. i tried restarting my ipod... no luck. i tried restoring my ipod... still no luck.

i still do not understand the problem, but i knew of one song in particular that skipped at 0.44 with no avail. i decided that i would transfer that song (which was an mp3 file) to an aac file. when i put the aac version of the song onto my ipod, it played and did not skip.

_*i would HIGHLY recommend that people try converting their mp3 files to aac files.*_ it seems stupid that it works, but i am going to try it next on an entire album that would never play and always skip. i hope it works.

SOLUTION!!!! (at least it was for me)

After 2 hours at the genius bar, 3 ipod nano's, and frustration because they kept saying it was my fault....guess what...they were right.

The songs (mp3's) that were skipping on my ipod nano had somehow gotten 2 id3v2 tags!!! This can be simply fixed by opening up whatever tag editing program you use (i use winamp..but will be the same in iTunes) and remove the tag from the file. Once done you'll see that there is still a tag there. The song will now play correctly on the ipod nano..(was also happening on my Touch) The reason why this doesnt happen on the shuffle is simple....it doesnt use the tags.

so ive only had my RED nano for a couple of weeks, and the skipping problem started from the beginning. I've read this entire forum, and seems to me like it might be the iTunes software of the verizon of the ipod. I've tried everything. and like i dont know wht to do know because i really want all my songs to play. any help?

I had the same issue with 2nd gen ipod. I took to the genius bar and they said since i use XP that my software must have been corrupted from an improper ejection from the usb port. They had to reload the software (which none of the 5R's in the book tell you about) and it worked fine. Up until a month ago when it now only backlit and appears to have crashed and burned. I am VERY disappointed. I have had this since april 2006 and used very little. This appears to be a very unreliable product. Take it to your local Apple store and let your complaints be heard!
