thin vertical lines are appearing on the screen on my imac G5 (isight)

A short while ago a very thin blue line appeared running vertically down the the screen, i cant undertsand why the screen is beginning to do this as the computer is not that old.

A second line has just appeared. I hope the screen doesn't decide to die!

Can such a thing be fixed?

James

seriously (?) O.K.; thousands of serial numbers have the same first five digits but elsewhere for some reason we are warned against posting them even here in their entireity; hence ??????? or XXXXXXX etc, etc. These few are sufficient to indicate plant of origin and month.
While they might have recalled some and not all affected, Apple has continued hosting this forum, without deletions, imo.
After upsetting myself online I was treated faultlessly when I spoke to the right person and I suggest it may be worth taking your beloved iMac in to the best reseller/service provider you can get to. Refer to my posts here and on macrumors for my experience, fwiw.

I'm having the same problem with my 1 and half years old iMac G5 iSight. The lines started to appear just after the machine turned 1 year old. Now the screen shows 5 lines. still, no answer from apple. This problem is getting worse for more and more users in different countries and no answer at all. I've been a faithful user of macintosh computers for more than fifteen years, and this is the first time that I have a serious hardware problem in my computer (I've owned 15 different machines in that period of time), and excelent product quality was my flag to follow apple, now I'm starting to change that point of view .

all i can say is:

THANK GOD I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE!

i got mine in december of 2005 and it's done the exact same thing!
one blue line, then another about an inch to the right of it and then a couple of hours ago, a yellow one between the two! i've been calling apple like twice a day since it began to happen! i can't afford to get it fixed and i'm certainly not enjoying the 'mac' experience with lines going down my screen!
mine (W8546) falls out of the range as well ....

lol
it wasn't very useful stuff, i can tell you that!
they basically said that if it doesn't fall in the range and is not under warranty, it's not their problem. then they said to take it into my local apple technician and have them check it out. i went there, payed $100 for evaluation fees and all i got was a sheet saying my iMac has a severe pixel anomaly (which strangely enough, i had figured out or myself) and that it would cost me almost a grand to fix.
i just keep calling apple cause my dad seems to think they might eventually crack with enough persistance

I have posted this on another thread too. But for anyone reading it might be useful.

I had a line appear on my iMac G5 17" 2 GHz about four months outside the one year warranty. Apple are not interested in my problem. The serial number wasn't in the range covered by th extended warranty.

Since then no more lines have appeared on my G5. Looked at replacing the screen here in the UK at a cost of £534 for parts only. On the basis that I can get a brand new Dell 17" for £90 I consider that spare price to be a major rip off.

This is my solution: I've tested an external monitor and it works fine, no lines at all. So, now rather than buying an new 24" iMac I'll buy a 24" dell for about £100 less than the apple spare and use that as my monitor on the iMac. That way I get a nice large workspace for less than the price of the spare. I could of course connect a smaller 17" Dell up to my iMac.

By the way both of the Dell monitors have three year warranty as standard. Try out an external monitor and see if it works for you.

I'm starting to feel very very disappointed with Apple. After supporting them for many years and recommending them to everyone I know I now see they are becoming like every other big fat bloated don't give a **** company out there. Meawhile they have cheap labour making their increasingly unreliable products in places like China while they just count the profits and ignore the likes of us mugs that pay for their computers that last just over one year! It's not on and I for one will never recommend them again to anyone.

Mine has 6 lines now. Spoke to them too, they said that if there are a lot of users with the same problem sending in their imacs, they might consider an extended warranty program. He can't comment how many though. I asked if we fix it now and Apple decided to extend the warranty later, can we get a refund. They said we can write in for a refund but no guarantees. I think Apple is getting too big and arrogant, not caring about their customers. I just bought a HP Compaq laptop, should have stuck to PCs instead of this integrated all-in one expensive mess.
