thin vertical lines are appearing on the screen on my imac G5 (isight)
A short while ago a very thin blue line appeared running vertically down the the screen, i cant undertsand why the screen is beginning to do this as the computer is not that old.
A second line has just appeared. I hope the screen doesn't decide to die!
I hate to say that the line that appeared last week down the middle of my screen has disappeared. Why? No idea, just glad it is gone and I hope it never returns. So suffice to say some of these lines may be temporary.
I have a similar isssue. I Mac G5 (November 2005) W8548. When we logged on yesturday my entire screen was full of colored pixelated lines - they screen was unreadible. Tried rebooting - no help. Found a Help topic for "Black Screen" that was a rest by pushing Control
Option+PR during power up. That helped. The screen was perfect.
Later last night the same thing, except the reset doesn't work. Also tried the Safe Mode Start up, that didn't help either. I have never had the random lines, just a screen full of them,
Unfortunately since mac shifted from mexico to china (cheap labor) the quality of mac has deteriorated, I used to have a g4, it lasted me almost 10 years, i bought the Imac g5, thinking, "its a mac, brilliant quality" hahaha.. my screen had a line two weeks after my warranty expired, took it back to the shop, sorry they said, need a new logic board which cost half of the original price of the computer. im sure your all saying.. "oh f@#$$$%%% .. now because i cant afford a new computer, or even justify spending half the price on something which will only be under warranty "for 3 month"s what do i do? personally i know 5 people, friends of mine all with the same problem, there is obviously something wrong with mac now days, and i think after all the support we have given Mr Jobs over the years, its about time he gave us some back, dont you think?
Oh my God...last week a purple line appeared on the screen of my iMac G5 (1,5 years old) just to disappear in 2 days...some days ago a blue line came out again from the nowhere and i was so preoccupied, then i realize that some of you has got 10 or more lines...now i'm terrorize!
Apple has got to do something...what can we do?!?
I started getting the dreaded vertical lines on the right side of my G5 iMac display about six weeks ago. About twenty have appeared since then. This morning a gigantic two-inch wide block has cut a swath near the center, making my two-and-a-half year old computer practically unusable. Given that Apple has not responded to this blatant manufacturing issue and I cannot afford a repair or a new computer, I've had no choice but to buy an external monitor.
Apple has to do something about this totally defective and high-priced product. It's criminal on their part to just tell us that we have to buy new computers. I have plenty of low-end audio and video equipment that I have used and abused that has lasted far longer than this.
Guys, It gets worse.. last night instead of my 20+ mulit coloured vertical lines, half of my screen has now decided go blank, I cant see didley Squat, so all my icons and scroll bar is now taking over the left side of my screen.. If only i trained on a PC.
...and now I'm discovering that we lucky G5 iMac owners only have a Mini-VGA out on our computers rather than a mini-DVI, making it impossible to get a clear digital image on an external display.
Guys I have the same problem with my iMac G5 Duo,purchased over a year ago Refurb from Apple. I am also a musician/engineer and have a similar problem with the LCD screen on my Tascam DM-24 Digital Audio Mixer. I found a fix for this on a Tascam Forum. It seems that the epoxy resin or whatever they use to glue the screen in place started to deteriorate and the same lines appeared on it. There is a cheap fix that I have not had the time to do yet but when I do I will post the results here as it might help!!

Me too!! My serial number is W8545, so also outside the range of the repair programme. It is just under two years old and has already had the mother board replaced after video problems. I've got to take the thing back for the second time in three months!!! Grr!
Hello everyone ! the french website macbidouille has "officially" posted in its news a topic concerning the problem we are discussing here (although many posts in the forum of this site were already describing the problem); another small step towards recognition...
