Thank you Borrisimo, thank you indeed. 3.2.2 back and restored from a previously archived backup. Now up and running with the essential features (i.e. orientation lock switch) intact...
That 3.2.2 firmware will be kept along with that backup file, until Apple can provide an update that retains my "paid for" functionality on a hardware level.
It moves the previous file(s) to the trash.
I simply created a folder titled *Previous iPad firmware* in the same folder and moved the 3.2.2 ipsw to that folder.
Finally decided to try iOS4.2.1 on my iPad today. So far so good (knock on wood) Still concerned about how it may (or may not) effect battery life (after getting burned upgrading my 2nd gen iPod to iOS4) I'll give it a few days to see how it performs before deciding whether to stick with it or go back.
NOTE: It's a REALLY good idea to save that file in library/itunes/iPad iPad1,1
3.2.2_7B500Restore.ipsw
in case you want to restore to iOS 3.2.2.
Do this before you download and update to iOS4.2.1 By default iTunes throws this away into your Trash can and replaces it with the new OS version. If you empty your trash regulary you could lose it forever and not be able to go back (unless there is somewhere you can go online to get the file)
hey borrisimo, thx for the tip. seriously.
I have a question. You mentioned about 3.2.2 in the recycle bin. what did you do with that? did you put it back to the itune file along with 4.2.1?
about your 3.2.2. version file that was in trash....could i just drag that file from trash and place in library itune folder? what did you with your file that was in trash?
I'm going to write a separate post on this: 4.2 *will slow your ipad down*. If you think otherwise, please test and let others know. I was fortunate enough to be able to test the speed of two ipads, side by side, touching both screens at the same time and comparing speeds. It's not small. People who upgrade should know this. I'm shocked so little is written about this. Also, take this as my 'free information', I don't intend to discuss it further. I just made my choice and am grateful I could.
