No iPhone in Puerto Rico, US

Apparently, the iPhone can't be activated if the user lives in Puerto Rico (US). Area code 787 or 939.

Apple had a store in PR ~20 years ago. Right now there are no Apple stores here, although everyone else is here (CompUSA, Sony Store, Modernica ( http://modernicaonline.com/ ), Office Max, Radio Shack, ...).

iPhone not available in this stores, including corporate AT&T stores.

If someone from Puerto Rico is able to use or activate the iPhone let us know. Puerto Rico is included in AT&T's US coverage.

The transfer is quick. I takes 10 minutes. All you have to do is call customer service and ask for a transfer because you moved. They'll offer to do it over the phone... ask them if it can be done is a store and they'll tell you which stores can do this. Go to the store and ask for it. All they do is change your address and phone number.... you'll need a local phone (anything ther that 787). They'll process the info and give you a new sim card. Put it in you current cell and your are done

Once you have your iPhone just plug it into the computer and follow the instructions and you should get it activated in a few minutes. Teh activation through iTunes is great and very quick.

Won't work.... I tried it and ATT ended up deactivating the sim card (this is a long story.... try it but i asure you that it wont work)

Remember the problem is not the account or the service, plan etc.... the problem is the unlocking of the phone. This is something that ATT customer service personel don't understand. Their managers do understand it perfectly.

That may be good. If you are right, then it should be ok. Let me explain. Apple can't control AT&T system (as far as I know). The activation process by Apple is just to verify that I am a US customer, then it somehow during the activation process forwards me towards AT&T system to continue activation. Then I continue using my 787 area code. UNLESS zip codes and area codes during the activation process are related. I will let you know by Tuesday when my iPhone arrives. I think PR's systems are prepared since I can use my current Treo 750 3G (UMTS) and EDGE in the case of my previous Treo 680.

I live in Puerto Rico and Have 2 iPhones. You don't have to make any changes to your address or anything. BUT, if you purchased your phone and have a contract from AT&T puerto rico, you might have a problem. I purchased my cell phones from AT&T in the states (Chicago).
I was the first one to get the iPhone in Chicago, and activated it online immediately. AT&T has my Puerto Rico address, and I activated it with that address (It asked you for your zip code when activating the phone). Remember, AT&T Puerto Rico is a different company/market than AT&T in the states.

Take a look at the link.
