No iPhone in Puerto Rico, US

Apparently, the iPhone can't be activated if the user lives in Puerto Rico (US). Area code 787 or 939.

Apple had a store in PR ~20 years ago. Right now there are no Apple stores here, although everyone else is here (CompUSA, Sony Store, Modernica ( http://modernicaonline.com/ ), Office Max, Radio Shack, ...).

iPhone not available in this stores, including corporate AT&T stores.

If someone from Puerto Rico is able to use or activate the iPhone let us know. Puerto Rico is included in AT&T's US coverage.

15" MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.4.8), 2GB RAM

OK People,
You will NOT be able to have a 787 phone number with the iPhone. The 787 phone numbers are with AT&T Puerto Rico, which don't have the supported process for the iPhone. If you want a iPhone right now, you have to do 2 things.
Tell AT&T Puerto Rico that you want a US cell phone number. They will transfer your account to at&t US, which will be a US phone number. Then buy the iPhone and activate it. You can still have a PR address, but you can't have a PR phone number.
Or you can wait till August or September (Hopefully), and get a iPhone from AT&T Puerto RIco.

I’ve already spent literally like 8 to 10 hours in total on phone talking to ATT (called them around 15 times). They told me that it couldn’t be used in PR, but I already heard that it CAN be used in PR with an area code from the US. I also heard that if you changed your zip code billing address it would workm, but didn’t. Then I heard that you could have a phone from the US activate it and then change your area code to PR, but couldn’t do it either. The only thing I have left is for anyone to try to activate and then change the sim card to one from PR. If anyone has done it please let me know, or if anyone has it in PR please try it and let me know, if I can’t use it in the island I am going to turn it in befeore I return, please le me know.

I mean I have absolutely NO DOUBT whatsoever the phone CAN be used in PR. What we're trying to figure out is if we can activate the phone, whether it's in the physical continental US, or in PR.

Someone already said they tried to activate it in LA using area code 787 and had issues with this, so he had to change the number altogether.

The main problem is that AT&T and Apple probably don't even know for sure about this case, so some employees tell us we can absolutely activate it because its AT&T no matter where, and some employees tell that it cannot be done.

All we can do for now is just sit and wait until more people try it.

I've called them and asked about everything, the only thing left to try and the only hope to have an iPhone in PR and hace the 787 area code is to see if you can unlock it and change the sim card of the iPhone with one with 787 to see if it works. If someone tries this please let me know, I think thats our only hope.
