My wall charger was working, I plugged the usb cable into my computer, synced up, charged a while, then went back to the wall charger, and it isn't charging.
Tried resetting....wall charger is not hot or anything...all cables are secure....
iPhone still charges when attached to the computer.
Same problem 😟
Last night I had to use my 'ipod mini' firewire-connection AC plug (the iphone/ipod connection is the same, and it worked fine) to charge because the new USB plug would only work thru the computer and the cradle- the new brick seemed to be just that- a brick!
but tonight, it worked again, just like before. I was figuring maybe it was something with the plug on the power strip I was using- didn't realize other folks had the same problem.
I was having similar issues with my USB charger. Got all the way the apple store, they tested it and it worked just fine. Wasted trip, but the only thing that I could guess was closing the prongs and opening them again fixed some connection issue.
My charger is acting up too... In fact I have another iPod USB charger that won't charge my iPhone either. They both look exactly the same but neither will charge the iPhone. My computer will charge it fine.
Same thing happened to me, but all I had to do was pull the USB cable out of the small charger brick (that goes into the wall plug) and replace it a few times to get the electrical contact working. I think there just may be a coating of something on the electrical contacts from the manufacturing process.
I'm having the same issue as well. It appears to be isolated to the power block as I can use the USB on my computer and it's fine. I tried plugging in my iPod to the USB and power block and that wouldn't charge either. I called the Apple store in MASS that I drove (for 4 hours) to get my iPhone and they were more than happy to have me come back to swap it out. I will the next time I go to the Apple store but in the meantime I bought a new block at Best Buy and all is fine. Seems to be a common issue though. I wonder if Apple will replace them once the complaints get loud enough.
Purchased two 8 gig sku's, one for myself and another for a friend. The first night I used the wall charger and it worked fine. I tried two days later and no response from the iphone. I can now currently only charge using the usb on the pc (same cord works). My friend just called me detailing the same problem. There is something wrong with the bricks.
count me in too - my wall charger doesn't work anytmore (it worked fine for the first couple of days, then became fickle, and is now dead), but the USB cable charges the iPhone just fine when connected to my computer.
my charger had worked, then didn't work, then worked, then totally seemed to stop working for two days straight. so, i took the wall charger into the genius bar at the apple store this evening. the guy plugged it in, connected it to my phone, and of course, it worked. he gave me a new charger anyway, and my phone is happily charging now. did anyone else take their charger back? same thing happen?
Tried my charger again a few minutes ago. If I connected my iPhone to the charger and "then" plugged in my charger to the outlet, it WORKS! Did it several times and if I plugged in charger before I connected my iPhone it failed. Had to have iPhone connected to charger before plugging in to get it to work. Hope this helps.
I have tried every method, swapping cords, swapping bricks, testing with my nano, and there is definitely something wrong. Like everyone else, I can charge only from the macbook-I'm going back to the Apple Store today and will report my findings.
Hopefully we can keep all the adapter/wall charger posts in one area for better impact...
In total we have 14 iPhones in our family-extended family.
So far my ac adapter has quit (replaced at Apple Store, no questions asked, Texas). Notified today that another adapter quit...back to the Apple Store again.
I now have a similiar problem/annoyance that Troy Verges above has, however my beeping didn't start until I used the new adapter...I estimate the beeping goes off about @ 15 minutes. My phone, when charging with the ac adapter, also randomly turns on (if I have it powered off)...will be asking at the Apple Store about THAT one also when taking the 2nd ac adapter back....
Hate feeling like a beta tester; thankful for the discussions forums 🙂
Same thing happened to me. It was working and now is not. The power had gone out and when I went back to charge my phone I thought a circuit breaker had tripped.
If I plug the USB cable in to my computer it works just fine. I have not had time to take it to the Apple store. It would be nice to be able to charge my phone without my computer hook up since my phone is so much a part of my life now.
I had bought a car charger - not an apple product - which didn't seem to work, so I got another model of charger and that works fine.
I also had the Apple iPhone USB wall charger stop working.
It was working fine until I decided to move it. When I unplugged it, it quit. Tried everything including staring at it intently for quite a while. Nothing.
Took it to the Apple store for a replacement and it worked fine there. Naturally.
Came home and plugged it in. Worked great until I decided to move it again. Then dead again.
This time I stared at it longer with that knowing look. I also flipped the plug blades up and down a bunch of time and removed and reinserted the plug piece.
Now it is working again.
I'm leaving on a trip so I'll have to unplug it again. We'll see, but something is definitely not right with it.
