This is what you should do to get rid of your Error 8008 problem:

Hey Wootmasta,

1) find your iTunes folder on your computer.
2) In your iTunes folder is a folder named "downloads".
3) In this folder, iTunes stores temporary files of your downloads in progress.
4) Double click this folder and you should see the names of the files/programs that keep coming up error -8008. They will be folders with a .tmp extension.
5) Go ahead and delete those defective files.
6) Then, that's when you to your iTunes account and "Check for Purchases".
7) Re-download your 2 episodes of Bones, this time it will be done properly.

No this does NOT work. I kept getting the error. I went to the download folder (I've a mac), and there's NOTHING in them or there's no download folder. Then someone from Apple told me either to download from another computer or to set up another account and copy all my files (iTunes and everything else) to that new account. The first seemed less drastic, so I tried it. I was able to download the files and burn them to a CD, but BE CAREFUL. I copied the files back to my original computer, but now when I log into iTunes it tries to download EVERY SONG I HAVE EVER BOUGHT. This has rendered iTunes virtuously useless. On the bright side I can take the trouble to hunt for files from my season passes and then NEVER, EVER use iTunes store again.

Oh, don't try using the live help, either. The folks at iTunes keep sending the same useless ideas even when you tell them you tried them.

Short answer: Hope to God some other company challenges Apple so market forces will make iTunes and iTunes support work.

Actually i found this helpful. have a PC and instead of looking in the iTunes folder i just did a quick search for "Downloads" folder on my computer (there were about 5 or 6) - went through each of them and "found" the one that had my pending shows being downloaded (ie. found the one attached to iTunes). Deleted the troubled file (in our case it was ugly betty) and then went back to iTunes and Check for Purchases and it started all over again. 🙂 so this DOES work, just maybe not exactly the process the previous user described.

this does work. i tried to download 2 episodes of a TV show at once...
I tried the method of going to your itunes folder (in my case i store itunes on external drive) and then to downloads. i then deleted the 2 shows and then went back to store: check for purchases again. it is now redownloading-not trying to download from where it left off... thanks!

It did NOT work for me - I've done this multiple times. It does allow me to start downloading the messed up episode from scratch, but it still ends up with error 8008. I've also looked at my directory permissions, and there isn't any obvious reason that I'm having trouble with this. I'm so frustrated!

Update - I emailed Itunes about this, and they tried to tell me to create a new username. I told them that this was not an acceptable solution, as it did not explain why only 1 particular episode was unable to download (and it would be inconvenient to switch everything over to a new username). they ended up giving me 2 free video downloads, and they told me to try downloading the problematic file again in a few weeks...

this WORKED! thank god! I had to use find to get my downloads, but I had been having problems for about a week prior to FINALLY finding this information, I even went to the apple store, only to be told I needed an "appointment" to ask a question....

That procedure for deleting the .tmp folder in the Downloads folder within the iTunes Music folder did not work for me either.

No matter how many times I deleted the .tmp folder for the movie ("Sunshine") I am renting, I still get the message "20.1MB of 1.20GB - stopped (error = 8008)" when iTunes downloaded about 20MB of the movie.

I think it is important to make sure to do the nomral stuff first:
-upgrade to latest SW
-Try to refresh (or go into Store - Check for Purchases)
-rebooting you PC

If this does not work I would do this next. It has worked for me 3 times now.

Im trying to download the same exact movie as you "Sunshine" deleting the file in the downloads folder isnt working for me either.

It stops at 20.1MB of 1.20GB exactly the same as yours.

Since you haven't actually watched it yet you should have 30 days to watch it. If you click on the Rented Movies on the left hand side of itunes under Library, it should display the movie and let you know how much time you have.

I've been experiencing this error intermittently for weeks. Thought I had it solved a while back by using our campus network, but it's back. The file download always stops on a multiple of 10 plus .1 - 10.1, 20.1, 40.1, 80.1, etc. - and then backs up 10 megabytes and tries again, always failing at the same point that it had previously stopped. Sometimes after MANY deletions of the temp files I miraculously get the whole TV show, but very rarely and on blessed days, it seems.

My ISP suspects the Akamai servers that Apple is using to distribute the programs as being part of the problem, but has not had a chance to fully investigate.

I'm having the same problem and tried all the same things everyone else did and haven't had any luck. I'm having the same problem with some songs but it says error = 100000. Why hasn't anyone from iTunes or whatever discussed this problem or fixed it yet? This is incredibly annoying.

I've had this issue off and on for a couple of months now. Never with small files, but with the larger <300MB files. These larger files would stop somewhere in multiples of 10MB plus 0.1. So, 10.1, 20.1, 30.1, etc. was what I was seeing. They would attempt to go 10MB more a couple more times, then stop with error 8008. Any one file would stop at the same spot, but other files my stop somewhere else. So file Alpha would say stop at 130.1MB and it would always stop at 130.1MB. Beta file would stop at 240.1MB every time, and so on. Here are my experiences:

First time I was able to delete said file and continue downloading. Found the info here in the discussions on how to do this. No real biggy to fix. Fact is this happens a bit more than my liking, but acceptable.

Next time I had to contact Apple where they found the file on the server kaput. After about a month of trying every Sunday, the file finally downloaded. This was more of a pain in the butt because it took Apple a bit to repair the file. The tech support was mostly good. A pain because of the usual "Try this and that" before they tested the file and found it corrupt. Mostly good because I got the file after a month.

Last time (last couple of days) I could download some but not all files. I spoke with my ISP this morning and was informed they have an open ticket with Apple concerning their Akamai server. They gave me a new DNServer address and I was able to download flawlessly. This was certainly the worst experience. Not only did I have to put up with a overly confident tech who's abilities only extended to what Apple put up on her screen, but I had to actually discover the issue on my own with the help of my ISP. IMO if this ticket was offered to Apple then the tech should have known about it. Instead, I was told to try this, try that, oh well call Apple Support 'cause I can't help you sorry. The fact it was Memorial Day only exasperated the issue. For those who don't know, Apple has spread their Akamai servers around the nation (or world maybe) to help with loading. One of those resides at my ISP.

So the short version of this is I have had 3 different issues. Once with the download becoming corrupt, second with the Apple file being corrupt, and lastly with the Akamai server at my ISP having issues. If you are experiencing issues with downloads you may want to consider that I have had 3 different cases with 3 different repairs. I don't think this is a cookie cutter issue and you may want to try different alternative resolutions.

I am also havin this problem with Dexter Season 2 episode 11. It stops a 210.1Mb everytime and I have tried everything short of calling an Apple tech (who will probably tell me what i already know). I am going on vacation Friday and it will be a 10 hour flight so i wanted to watch the remainder of the episodes i havent seen, so waiting 2 weeksisnt really an option for me. I just feel like there has to be some apple employee reading this forum and laughing. This is ridiculous. Someone please help. I have been using Macs exclusively for years and always had good customer support in the past, so something like his really shouldnt be a problem.
