Hello there Maninha,

This is what you should do to get rid of your Error 8008 problem:

Hey Wootmasta,

1) find your iTunes folder on your computer.
2) In your iTunes folder is a folder named "downloads".
3) In this folder, iTunes stores temporary files of your downloads in progress.
4) Double click this folder and you should see the names of the files/programs that keep coming up error -8008. They will be folders with a .tmp extension.
5) Go ahead and delete those defective files.
6) Then, that's when you to your iTunes account and "Check for Purchases".
7) Re-download your 2 episodes of Bones, this time it will be done properly.

Worked? 😉

I am getting this also when trying to download the movie Chaos Theory.

This has to be a true file corruption problem. At this point, Apple is still laying the blame on my system. I don't run web accelerators or garbage like that and I am clear of firewall issues.

I tried the download on a *different computer* from this account, and it failed with the same error at the exact same point.

I bought another movie last night (No Country for Old Men) which was a much larger file, and it downloaded flawlessly.

I have tried completely deleting the folder as well as simple restarts of the download. Nothing works. I have heard of people somehow redirecting to different Akamai servers.

THIS IS A FILE CORRUPTION PROBLEM. This is NOT a problem with our machines in cases like mine, at least, and Apple needs to address this. They need to help us resolve these problems either by replacing the bad files on the affected servers or by refunding our money with less hassle. They should know by now that something is wrong. The problem lies with prcedures at Apple or with Akamai, but it whould not be our problem to figure out and resolve.

I have always loved Apple, but I have a hatred for companies that shirk responsibility. I understand that technically inept users are a normal thing, but this should be a recognized problem by now.

Upon instruction from the iTunes store, I have tried all of the following, and NONE of them work.

1. The Multiple Check option
Check for purchases multiple times. Each time the file stops downloading, try to "check for purchases" to get it to download further.

2. The Delete the Download's Folder
Find the Download's folder and look for the <tvepisode>.tmp folder and delete that. Then go back to instruction 1.

3. The Delete the Partially Downloaded File, the Downloads Folder, Restart iTunes and Check for Purchases option
This also does not work.

4. The Delete the Partially downloaded file, delete the downloads folder, check and repair disk permissions, restart computer, restart iTunes, Check for Purchases.
This also does not work.

5. The re-check network connection, turnoff firewall, delete the partially downloaded file, delete the downloads folder, restart iTunes, Check for Purchases, re-Check for purchases more than 5 times.
This also does not work.

If anyone has anything else I can try, then please let me know.

Akamai is the root of MANY problems, and not just with Apple. I've had users at Canoga Park unable to access any Akamai hosted site for two hours a couple of weeks ago. Trying to get ANY info from Akamai's engineers is impossible.

As to the 8008 error, I've had this issue with some downloads before. If this is a rental, contact Apple for a refund ASAP. If this is an out-right purchase, you can either get a refund or just wait a few weeks; the corrupted file usually flushes out of the system by then.

I have been having this issue with one episode of a 13 episode series of "Chuck". The show in question is "Chuck and the Nemesis.." and stops every time at 160.1MB. I have been a Mac user for 10 years, so I have tried all the usual suspects (deleting the temporary file from downloads etc) and nothing helps. I have emailed Apple support who got back to me quite quickly- but were no use at all.

This definitely looks like an Apple server side thing. I may wait a week or so and try and re-download. Up to now my experience of Apple's store has been flawless.

I just had this error and using the advice in this thread, I deleted the "download".tmp directory (where download = name of the movie/song) from inside the downloads directory under itunes. I also had to delete the list.plist file in the downloads dir and then did the "store/check for purchases" thing. This fixed the problem and the download started from scratch and worked perfectly.

Hope this helps someone...

Anyone having this problem with the movie "Reign Over Me"? I attempted all the fixes possible. The file delete; the signing into another user account, etc. After multiple contact with itunes support; they almost refuse to believe maybe there is problem with the file itself. On top of that the only help they can give is to look on the boards for answers? Kinda like the horse asking it's bum why it has a headache. Seems to be a huge disconnect between Apple support and the rest of the divisions. Anywho, my error comes with 460.2 mb (of 1.37 gb). Every time, every 'fix'; same error. Clearly the delete works for PC's; so if anyone really does find a fix for mac's i'd love 2 know.

I had the same issues described here, did all the same things, and nothing worked. Until yesterday - I downloaded the update for iTunes, tried without much hope just one more time to download my TV show, and, amazingly, it worked. Make sure you've got the latest update (it just found it last night for me, so check right now), cross your fingers and try again. Good luck!

Sorry, but the "deleting the download" clearly does NOT work for PCs. I think Uwe Denk has the most useful info and is correct: This is definitely not a cookie-cutter issue. For some subset, restarting the download in some form is working. But for many users (Macs and PCs), there is a problem with corrupted files from the server side - this is obvious since the same files are having the problems, and quite annoying that if they haven't figured out how to fix the core issue everywhere yet, that they haven't at least developed a quick fix or corrupt file check for Support people ... considering this issue has been going on for OVER a year.

I'm having very similar problems with an episode of One Tree Hill. I bought Season 5 on DVD and got the free digital copy. Every other episode of the season downloaded fine, but No. 6 (I forget the title) has this problem. It goes up to 20.1MB, then drops to 10MB, then gives me the error. I have tried everything below up until deleting the entire folder (I've got a couple of things downloading at the moment) and repairing permissions. I'm hoping some of that will work later on. If not, hello HandBrake.

You'd think there would be multiple copies of these files on servers in different locations. It's bizarre that anything like this happens. Maybe the movie studios should just let us rip the video like we can music?? 🙂

I hit this error downloading an episode of The Wire, (season 2, episode 4). After deleting the file from my downloads folder and re-trying several times, I became convinced the problem was on the server side. I read something about Akamai and DNS, so I again deleted the file from downloads, changed my DNS settings (to use opendns.com) and BINGO, that did it. The Akamai server I was originally hitting must have a corrupt file for that episode. Thanks to those who posted various clues in this thread.
