Want my iCal info drawer back!!

Hi,
just frustrated that they cut the ical info drawer. I know that it might be not very hand on small screens because it decreased the size of the actual calender - but with the new iCal I can´t see any info about events and todos - I first to doubleclick every event to get info - and then the bubble pops up. I´m on a two monitor setup, and when I doubleclick a todo on the right sight of the screen the bubble is hanging between the gaps of the monitors and I have to move it to be able to read. When I close it and doubleclick again it is back to the odd position...grrr...
not so happy now with this evolution - a preference of either bubble or drawer would have been cool - also the possiblity to see the bubble only with one click...
Best regards - Christoph

What's really stupid is when I try to delete an event, only to see another on a different day delete itself and the one I just deleted return as if by magic. Then, as I try to undo, nothing happens. So, I try deleting the magically appeared one again and it won't budge. Now what the **** is that all about? I use calendar as a main scheduling tool, now with this upgrade, not only is it slow, but I run the risk of losing valuable appointments. What gives, Apple?

The other usability issue that comes up is that you can't directly edit the text of an event without double clicking on the event and then hitting edit.

In the previous version - with or without the info drawer you could directly edit events by just clicking on them and editing them.

I'm so frustrated....I use iCal every day, it's a great little program but it's become horribly inefficient due to a complete lack of usability in the editing of events and their notes.

I also vote for bringing back the drawer, or something equivalent. A sidebar would be fine, possibly better. On a widescreen (oh look - ALL macs are widescreen) there's tonnes of room for a nice wide notes/details panel.

90% of my use for ical is to store my daily journal, and take notes on seminars I attend. Having to type them into some silly, tiny, oddly colored pop-up window isn't very nice. Personally I think this new interface with the pop-up inspector is 1000x LESS clean than the old interface.

Absolutely second this one. The new bubble bobble (ibubble) *****.

Especially the Overview over Events which had a note text inside is gone with the wind in leopard. One cannot identify repeating events, one cannot identify events with notes, one cannot rely on ical.
I really think about switching to another calendar program. Very, very sad. Hope Apple switches back in time for my work to get done...

Agreed.

I don't use the info drawer daily - I use it 24x7. Literally ALL THE TIME. I manage my to-dos with iCal, and the functionality in Leopard is FAR inferior to what we had in Tiger.

In Tiger, you could single-click to view details of any item in iCal, whether that item was a calendar, an event, or a to-do. And, you could use the arrow keys to switch between to-dos to see their details. ALL of this functionality is gone in Leopard.

I don't care whether we get a drawer, or another pane in the iCal window - I don't care what the interface is - I just want the functionality back!

I have already submitted my feedback, and I suggest you all do the same.

Interesting workaround, although there's the likelihood that a future (soon?) System update will replace your old framework file again, breaking it. What other things this hack might affect are unclear... still, it's an option for those desperate and willing...

I'm really attached to that info drawer also. Perhaps another workaround is called for, like using a different calendar app. Suggestions anyone?

Add me to this list.....

I use the info window continuously in my calendar management. So much so that I will not be upgrading to Leopard without this feature.

Very disappointed. Was hoping for an improved ical interface in Leopard. Instead, this feels regressive.

Additionally, my sole reason for planning to purchase the iphone was compatibility with ical. Tired of jumping through hoops of fire to sync my calendar and phone. Currently living in Asia so iphone is not yet available. This ical fumble also puts that purchase in question.

Sincerely hope that someone recognizes the value of this feature and returns it to its rightful place.

Furthermore, the details of an ical event that are immediately available are limited to the title of that event. Not much information when compared to having the info window open and able to see Notes.

Being able to Tab and Shift-Tab through events with all those details right there is what makes this app so useful.

Apple, I really don't think power users want extra, cumbersome clicks in our life.

Please bring it back. Can't understand why it is not optional. Easy compromise.

I absolutely agree that a quicker editing viewing system is needed. I wonder if Apple thought that putting Notes in Mail was the better solution. It would have been nice if they told us that was the idea. It is kind of cool. You can have notes in line with emails. They are time stamped and you can turn it into a todo in the iCal calendar of your choice. It means of course everyone used to quick access to note in iCal will have to learn a new method but it could be better. Mail would become more of a task manager than it was. It could have journals ect. Notes can be sent as emails with the push of a button.

Check it out.

I am not saying it is better

It's all for fun anyway,

Greg
