Want my iCal info drawer back!!

Hi,
just frustrated that they cut the ical info drawer. I know that it might be not very hand on small screens because it decreased the size of the actual calender - but with the new iCal I can´t see any info about events and todos - I first to doubleclick every event to get info - and then the bubble pops up. I´m on a two monitor setup, and when I doubleclick a todo on the right sight of the screen the bubble is hanging between the gaps of the monitors and I have to move it to be able to read. When I close it and doubleclick again it is back to the odd position...grrr...
not so happy now with this evolution - a preference of either bubble or drawer would have been cool - also the possiblity to see the bubble only with one click...
Best regards - Christoph

I do agree with you.

I've just made use of the Info panel as my lecture note.
When using Spotlight, the info panel turns into very useful a series of lecture notes.
Every single click of the cursor key ,the info panel flows on the same position as if I turn the pages of a note.It was very very useful.
So every information I needed is easily copied, written and put inside the panel. The panel stretches to even full screen. And there's no limit in scrolling. And even more, on Tiger, the panel detached easily. But, why now no panel ?

There's no powerful method in keeping daily affairs and every information than iCal with Spotlight.

So, I hope the Apple make the panel back at the next update.

Hi S5,
I can understand why you are saying that the drawer was poor - I also so disliked at first the way the calenderview had to shrink for that drawer and thought the bubbles would be good idea, but the additional steps and clicks and the impossibility to see informations and notes right away of an event or todo are just too painful for alot of users who uses iCal in way where they are depending on that notes.
I came up with a script that combines FileMakerPro and iCal - I can make todos out of FileMaker which are subscribed through iCal so they are always up to date and when I go to a todo I can click on a URL inside that note which brings me back to the corresponding FileMaker Data - it works great, but ONLY with that drawer. With the bubbles it would be broken. So I´m just hoping Apple can bring it back or at least something similar... Best regards - Christoph

Greg,

I don't so much buy that. I tried it, and the to-do interface in Mail is sub-par for several reasons. The first is the lack of color-coding like you have in iCal.

Also, notes in iCal are saved with a to-do. Notes in Mail are wholly separate things.

I personally have no interest in using Notes, To-Dos, calendar events, or RSS in Mail. I use iCal for calendar/to do, Address Book for addresses, Mail for email, and Cyndicate for RSS. To me they are all separate activities, and I have no interest in combining them.

I don't think any of us is married to the drawer UI. I think we all just want the functionality that the drawer gave us - an instant view into the details of the calendar, event, or to-do; and the ability to quickly and easily edit every detail of that calendar/event/to-do.

That's what I want anyway. I don't care what the UI is, but it can't be a popup - it has to be in the main iCal view.

I also responded in the last thread about this topic that was closed/removed. I agree with most here that the info drawer was a huge part of the UI and I also am in the group that uses "Notes" very heavily in my daily routine.

I have just posted to the previously mentioned iCal Feedback form and I strongly encourage people here to do the same (if you feel strongly) as that seems to be a way to "officially" make your voice herd.

I love iCal and have used it since day one, but I agree that the loss of the info drawer and its UI abilities is a serious bug/"downgrade" feature.

I agree that it is very hard to double click every time I want to edit an event, and adding events to my calendar has been a bit slower ever since I installed Leopard. However, I like the bubble. If apple could just let a single click view a calendar event, It would be a lot faster for people with one screen to create an event. But for the people with multiple screens (I do not know how that would be useful now that there's Spaces), there should be an option where users could choose a drawer or maybe define an area where the window can be.

I must agree that the loss of functionality is a major step backwards here. I find iCal almost unusable without the editing capabilities of the drawer. What has happened here? Did anyone actually try this out? I certainly hope that this will be addressed in an update very soon. I rely on iCal every day, and I find this upgrade a terrible mistake.
