D-Link DWL-122 USB Wireless Adapter

I have a D-Link USB Wireless adapter DWL-122 that continually 'freezes' the GUI and requires a hard reboot. I only seem to get about 2 to 5 mins worth of web browsing before this happens in either Safari or IE.

This has problem has existed for a while and can be replicated both on a B&W G3 and a Dual USB iBook and happens when connecting to Airport Extreme BAse Station, Airport Card, US Robotics 8045G Wireless Acess Point.

This also has happened under 10.2.7, 10.2.8, 10.3 and 10.3.1.

I have contacted D-Link who sent me another unit with the same problem. They also emailed me new drivers 1.3.2 (have been using 1.3.1) with no sucess.

Does anyone else have the same problem or any solution to get this device to work?

Thank you, thank you. D-link support has been useless ... they had no clue there is a newer driver than the 1.3.2 posted on their web site. Over multiple calls last weekend and this, they were unable to solve the problem ... I kept getting "incorrect WEP code."

I installed the 1.4.7 driver and it worked right away. I'm running 10.2.8 on an iBook.

I just want to add a note of skepticism to all the posts singing the praises of Ethernet Bridges over USB's. I bought a Linksys Ethernet Bridge last month--the WET11b-- and despite several hours on the phone with the help desk, was unable to get it to work.

Linksys says they offer no support on the Mac--they actually do, but it's limited. Anyway, mine is headed back to the store. I may try again to find an old Airport card. Prices seem to have come down since I last checked.

An interesting thing about the dwl-122 driver version 1.4.7, ... , it seems to recognize many different Prism-based devices. If you look at the extension 'Intersil Prism2.kext", specifically at the Info.plist inside, you will see not just the DWL-122 listed in the IOKitPersonalities, but also at least 5 other USB Prism items - the Netgear MA111, and a MicroSloth USB Wireless device, to name a few.

I am currently using the Netgear MA111.

The driver seems stable ( __finally__!!!) and now suddenly it doesn't need to be altered to work with USB wireless devices other than the DWL-122.

As I got the Netgear for free, it is a nice little backup/portable wireless unit. I originally bought the DWL-122 last fall for $30 at BestBuy, but returned it after so many freezes and problems.

I had the freezes so often cited in this and other threads, but 1.4.7 seems to have those licked.

Hope this helps some poor soul out there that still has the 1.3.2 driver.

Hello All,
I just downloaded the new version 1.4.7 from the Singapore site and sad to say that its no good either. There are still major bugs with the DWL-122 USB adapter: its very unstable; has poor connect rate; loading a simple Apple webpage stalls very often with many errors. The new version does not regcognize the signal from a Graphite Airport base station immediately, I had to play with the WEP password several times using either the $ sign before password, or with the 40-bit hex key (10 digit from the config info in the base station) It also slows down the iMac 333Mhz 256 ram Jaguar 10.2 to a crawl. I'm very frustrated and sending it back.
