Mac Mini CD drive not accepting any cd/dvd

Hello, I have a weird problem that seems to have happened recently. I am trying to insert a CD in the CD slot but the drive seems to be stuck. I suspected maybe there is already a CD but it does not seems so. How can I diagnose or fix this?

Any ideas on how this may have happened or how it can be fixed?? It was working yesterday. Today I rebooted to include the latest system update that was downloaded yesterday and now this is happening...

My Mac Mini 1.5GHz Intel Solo combo drive stopped working EXACTLY as the other posts. Some days it will read CDs & DVDs, other days it won't recognize the drive or eject discs. All this after Leopard upgrade. At first I thought it was the drive so I replaced the combo drive for a new one but the problem persists... In Tiger this was not present.

Any ideas?

Hello Everyone,

I'd just like to add a few more comments/inputs to this thread.

I have a Mac Mini ( purchased in India ) on the 26th of October, 2007. I was using Tiger till December, till Leopard finally was released here in Mumbai, India. My Combo-Drive ( MATSHITA CD-RW CW-8124 ) was working fine. However, I did not burn any dics after I upgraded to Leopard. Now, I'm on 10.5.2 and I find out that the drive refuses to burn any discs. Most of the time, it just spits out the discs plainly refusing to read them.

I'm not sure what may be wrong, but with so many replies in this thread, it seems to be a Leopard issue ?

I do not believe that it is just a Leopard issue because I have a Mac Mini 1.83 GHz with the *10.4 OS* and I have that exact same problem.

I too am having the problem of the discs being spit out. Today i burned 2 dvds without no problem then this evening i trying to insert a blank dvd and it would suk the disc in and the think for about 20 seconds and then spit the disc out. I have tried this with cdr's dvdr's dvd movies and with software install disks. I have reset the smc and the pram. still no go. I have apple care. Should i just take it in to have a genius check it out??
