Digital Asset Management (DAM)

I'm looking at purchasing software that can act as digital asset management, does Aperture have this ability. Basically I need to store digital images off my of hard drive onto DVD/external drives for archiving and then need to be able to find them again quickly.
I already use Canto Cumulus 6 for this but I have moved on to Intel Mac Pro and need to upgrade, might be time for a change.Any advise is appreciated.
Thanks for the help.

Have never heard of PTGui. The issue I have had with all the Pano software that I have tried is that they take a 300dpi image and give it back to you as a 72dpi image. Stitcher at least gives me the 72 dpi at twice the physical size so I can then half the size and increase the resolution to 150 so that the final print out will be tighter but I'm still disturbed by the intervention. Have you personal experience with PTGui and do you have a link to their web site?
Thanks for the tip Ian, it is timely.

This is one of those cases where your mileage may vary. I have used PTGui but consider the results I'm getting with CS3's Photomerge feature are well ahead. I'm throwing upwards of thirty hand held 10-12 megapixel 16 bit images into it, and printing full size. 16 bit 300dpi goes in, and that's what comes out. For me the feature is a major reason I give people for upgrading - the fact the code also powers HDR and stacked images is a bonus. It's one of the better upgrades.
