iTunes 7.6 problems

I upgraded to iTunes 7.6 today. Now when I try to access the iTunes Music Store, iTunes hangs in the middle of accessing the store. It becomes completely unresponsive. Not even a force quit works to kill it, so far I have only been able to restart the system to make the program quit. I will see if I can find the process and kill it with a kill -9, but to this point version 7.6 appears to not be able to access the iTunes store on my computer. Anyone else with this issue?

Sounds to me like Apple may have released some software that wasn't quite ready yet. Wouldn't be the first time, but usually they are better than this.

Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.4.8)

DON'T INSTALL 7.6! If you have an iPhone and you were upgrading to 1.1.3 firmware, the firmware works fine. But you are also prompted to upgrade to 7.6 iTunes and take advantage of movie rentals. Well, if you are a windows xp user and you sync your iPhone up to your outlook contacts and calendar, you're in for a few problems.
7.6 blows up sync'ing. Although contacts still sync'd, calendar events did not work at all (less than 50% of events sync'd).
To resolve things, I had to wipe out 7.6 (uninstall, delete all apple software directories, uninstall apple connector and apple updater, pretty much everything with apple in its name), wipe out the ITL and XML files from the itunes folder (in mymusic), reboot, then reinstall 7.5. Vua-la! Everything works fine.
Apple phone support tried to convince me my pc had changed. Nope. I upgraded again to 7.6 and the problems with calendar sync recurred immediately.
So until Apple releases a 7.6.1 or 7.7 or something they claim has fixed these bugs, pls don't waste your time trying to troubleshoot 7.6. There are a sleu of problems being identified for pc and mac users alike.

My TV Shows no longer play with sound.. I mean the video plays, but there is no sound... I think it is since the update but not totally certain. Anyone else have this problem recently? It's just the TV shows, and just on iTunes (they play OK in my iPod) ... my movies still play OK. This is frustrating. iTunes seems to be running way slower too... After I reinstalled Quicktime (standalone version) it got better (stopped freezing, now it just runs a little slower than usual), but I still am not getting audio on my TV Shows. I am a computer idiot and don't know what to do next.

On the way to work today, I had a second discussion at the Genius BAr and the tech guy suggested that I dump my iTunes app in the trash, empty trash, and restart. That will wipe iTunes right off my system (while preserving all my music, etc.). Then I should go to apple.com and reinstall iTunes as if I'd never had it.
He says this will solve my problem which he attributes not to a problem, in the update but some other sort of corruption along the line. I asked why it seemed that on this board at least many other people were having similar problems to mine and he said that 60 or so people was not significant in the vast universe of happy iTunes users.
I haven't tried this solution yet but will do so this weekend.
I have corrected permission three times without any change in the freezes and lockups I and many of the rest of you seem to have been experiencing so this seems like a good next step.

I'll let you knwo if it works.

I just tried it twice, does not work. I have tried trashing 7.6 and reinstalling 7.5, the version that gave me no grief, does not work. I have tried everything I can and nothing has worked. Does Apple monitor these forums or is there a way to discuss this with someone that can fix the problem-of a non-functioning and computer sapping iTunes upgrade?

Having read loads of these posts I am sticking to what I posted last Dec and someone has said recently if it works don't break it, Apple appear to be in a mess and I am will not upgrade I-tunes or QT until I know it works I like my music but I also need to work with FCP so I will soldier on with out of date software I went back to I tunes 7.4 and have stuck with it fortunately I don't an I-phone or running leopard but I am sure I will be forced to change one day

Good luck everybody

I too am having issues since upgrading to 7.6. I have lost my progress bar that has the pause, play etc button at the top. There is nothing, I have to go to edit and select play to hear any of my songs. I contacted Apple tech and they said they have not heard of this issue and to try reinstalling. I did, still the same problem. Is anyone else out there having the same issue. Would appreciate any suggestions. If all else fails, would I be able to go back to previous version of itunes? Thanks, Mary

After reading these, I'm finding there are tons of problems with iTunes... ever since last night, mine keeps trying to access the store, then give error code 9809 - itunes cannot access the store, unknown error, Try again later... seriously? if everyone is having this problem, then they are losing out on a lot of money when their store is having an "unknown error"... oh and must I mention I downloaded the updated version on my iphone and now it doesn't work...

I was experimenting with creating a new iTunes library (press and hold Option key while clicking on iTunes icon) with iTunes v7.5 on my Mac Pro. When I decided to reselect my current iTunes library ("iTunes Library") I received an error message that it could not be opened because it had been created by a newer version of iTunes (presumably v7.6). I was able to open the previous iTunes library, but lost some recent entries.

I checked the iTunes program version and it was still 7.5. When I checked for updates I received a message that iTunes v7.6 was available. When I tried to install v7.6 it I received a message that my software was up to date. I restarted iTunes, but it still indicated that it was v7.5.

I downloaded iTunes 7.6 and again tried to install it. The installation completed normally. When I subsequently started iTunes again and checked the version it indicated that it was version 7.5!

Does anyone know what is going on??
