MMS/ Picture Messaging

Does the new iPhone support MMS??? If no, WHY? This is a normal function that all phones being produced in our world of technology have. I have a original iPhone that I purchased almost a year ago. And when the warrenty is up, I'm just thinking about getting a blackberry. Just because the iPhone does not support normal fetures. What are the pros and cons if I do this? Also, if i chose to go with another type of phone, will I still be able to use the iPod part of the iPhone?

Did we have the App store when the first iPhone came out? No. Did we have iTunes on our iPhones when they first came out? No. Did we have a direct link to Contacts on the first iPhone? No, we didn't. All evidence does NOT lead to Apple not giving it to iPhone users one day. Did we have Copy and Paste on the first iPhone? No. Do we have Copy and Paste on the current iPhone? No. However, it's on the list of things to come. I'll hope, since that's all I can do is hope, that Apple will one day implement MMS, not EMS (Email Message Service) and Video Recording.

Apple should take into consideration adding MMS feature to iPhone. This feature might not be of a great deal to users in the US because it's new to them and they got used to emails, but the users in other regions are used to use MMS a lot. Another thing is that MMS is much more convenient since not everyone has internet connection with their mobile phones.
Apple made iPhone 3G for the whole world and it should take into consideration all its users base.

i highly doubt they'll put a price to MMS if they do it. it should be included in the texting plan. but if the iphone can send MMS why make us go through the struggle of typing in those email addresses? not all phones have email and such. another thing since were talking about texting, while im texting some of my messages sent wont get recieved by the other person. so typing it all over again is annoying when you can just have a resend button. it'll be nice to see resend and foward. all it takes is to click the cloud with the message and choose the option resend or foward.

Dude - you highly doubt they would charge extra for MMS? Be serious - ATT has already jacked up the price plan for texting for iphone after only one year!
Rest assured, if and when MMS comes to the iphone - there will be a separate fee for it if ATT has anything to say about it.

Read more here how others are beginning to wonder why the fees carriers charge for text messaging is spiraling higher and higher for such a small amount of data crossing their airwaves

Hey Dude, the messaging package for the iphone is the same one for all AT&T pda plans. It does not designate only SMS. It includes any form of text, whether SMS or MMS. If the phone can handle MMS, the plan includes it. The iPhone is the ONLY phone I know of that doesn't support MMS.

Email may be fine for pictures, but MMS supports so much more. What about video clips, audio clips, Real media, Windows media, etc. Probably the only reason the iPhone doesn't have MMS is because it doesn't support the files needed for MMS. Apple only wants us to be able to use the files THEY want us to use. If it's not Quicktime and comes from iTunes, which involves revenue, then forget it.

I have been pondering whether to upgrade to the iPhone 3G. But, considering the lack of MMS and a lot of other features of most other phones or pda's coupled with having a new two year contract with higher fees, I am seriously considering changing to another device.

Dude - your statment that the pricing plan is the same for all phones including the iphone is not true.

ATT has a totally separate voice and data plan for the iphone - they even have a separate page detailing the pricing for the iphone plans

http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-phone-service/specials/iphone-info.jsp

You'll notice on there that this is no mention of MMS pricing - only text and data plans. The data plans says it includes "email, web, visual voice mail". there is a totally separate section of pricing for their text plans.

AT&T does not have a totally separate voice plan for the iPhone.

AT&T's voice plans are the same regardless the phone.

The link you provided combines the monthly cost for AT&T's standard voice plans with the unlimited data plan for the iPhone 3G. Yes this is detailed on a separate page for the iPhone 3G but this doesn't mean AT&T has a totally separate voice and data plan for the iPhone 3G. It is detailed as a combined cost for the iPhone 3G since the $30 unlimited data plan is required.

And the unlimited data plan for the iPhone 3G is AT&T's standard unlimited data plan rate for phones in the smart phone or PDA category.

Go to AT&T's page detailing the available calling plan rates for an individual line and add $30 to each for an unlimited data plan and you will find the combined cost is the same as per the link you provided detailing the combined cost for the iPhone 3G.
