Only imports about 15 seconds of songs

If all these problems occured after installing 4.9, would the solution be to roll back to 4.8?

Would that work? And then either wait for a bug fix, or a newer version...

I downloaded and installed itunes 4.8 form

and it seems to have fixed the importing problems.

I was wrong, going back to the earlier version of itunes only fixed the problem with importing only a couple of seconds of the song (itunes will now import the whole song). I still have the problem where itunes only imports every other track on the CD.

I have exactly the same problem Just bought an i-pod shuffle and being trying to import music to go onto it and can get anywhere of between about 3 - 18 seconds of a song before it cuts off - it is very annoying. Why is there no-one from Apple fixing this bug? (or assisting those with this problem)

I have had the same issues since upgrading to iTunes 4.9

Mine seem more incideous than others. While I get just a blip of sound imported I have not since been able to import a complete CD into iTunes. Every now and then I can do just one track with success as long as it is not the last track on the CD. If it is then the whole program freezes and I am back to rebooting to gain access to the applicaiton again.

Is it possible that iTunes loaded any new audio drivers since one other thing that I have noticed is that even system sounds are 3 seconds or less now?

Hi Toonz.
I have run the iTunes Help menu. Diagnostics attached below. NB "Audio CD reading failed"

I have an AMD Athlon XP2400+ CPU
The motherboard is a K7 Triton GA-7VKMP via KM266 Chipset.

I have also attempted to obtain latest updates for the CD Drive without success(can not locate correct updates). I have an MSI CD-R/RW Drive and an Atapi CD-RW 52X max device.

Any further advice would be of great help.

Let's start with the support page for your computer.

Go there, click the "show all" button, and download and install the update labeled "Intel Chipset". See if that helps. If not, come back.

How interesting, David,

You're getting an error that Microsoft claims is impossible. I'm sure you feel better knowing that.

Let's start with your motherboard manufacturer, Gigabyte.

Go to the Gigabyte Support site and read how to use their download center and then click on the "Check out Download Center" button. On my machine, it analyzed my system and looked like it would have presented a list of drivers that needed updating -- but I don't have a Gigabyte motherboard, so it didn't give me anything. 🙂

So, go there and spin dry and fluff up your system with the latest drivers. In particular, make sure you have the latest video driver and the latest ATA driver or Intel Chipset installation.

If that doesn't work, come back and we'll try updating your firmware. I think you have really old firmware for that drive.

Are you saying that all songs, either from the hard drive or the CD, are 2-3 seconds? Or just the songs from CD?

Your support site does not have any driver updates, which is odd. Is this a very new machine or a very old machine? You have the latest firmware for that drive.

We're going to do something a little quick and dirty, just as an experiment.

On the start menu, click on "run". in the space it provides enter "regedit" without the quotes. This will open the registry editor.

Find the heading HKEY LOCALMACHINE. Click on it.
Find the heading SYSTEM inside it. Click on it.
Find the heading CurrentControlSet. Click
Find the heading Control. Click
Find the heading Class. Click
Find the heading that begins {4D36E965- Click

Select the lower filter key, right click, select "rename". Rename the key to "_LowerFilters".

Then reboot, and see what iTunes does.

To get back to your previous state, go back into regedit and rename the lower filters key back to "LowerFilters". Reboot.

Ok, that's an Intel Motherboard. So, let's start with the Intel support page. Go get the Intel chipset update for XP.

And I would suggest going to the nVidia support site and getting the latest universal video drivers and installing that.

Let me know if that doesn't help and we'll try something else.
