Ok toonz, I guess it's my turn to add to the list. My problem is the same as everyone else's. Itunes will only play or import the first few seconds of each track of any CD. I have a Gateway N0CPP012, Intel Pentium III Processor, 868MHz, 128 MB of RAM. I don't know what type of motherboard it is. I have an ATAPI CD-RW CW5205. Here are my CD diagnostics:

Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2 (Build 2600)
iTunes 4.9.0.17
CD Driver 2.0.4.3
CD Driver DLL 2.0.3.1
UpperFilters: GEARAspiWDM (2.0.4.3),
Video Driver: Intel(R) 82810E Graphics Controller (Microsoft Corporation) Intel(R) 82810 Graphics Controller

IDE\CdRomATAPI CD-RW_CW5205______________________180C___, Bus Type ATA, Bus Address [0,0]
If you have multiple drives on the same IDE or SCSI bus, these drives may interfere with each other.
Some Dell computers need an update to the ATA bus driver before iTunes recognizes CDs. If you have a Dell computer, check the Dell support website for details.

Surely all these users can't be having the same problem. Do you not think it may be a gremlin (or whatever the technical term is these days) with the latest iTunes update, as that appears to be the common thread here. Come on get your act together, we have all paid good money for our Pods and want to download our favourite CDs (not just a few seconds of each track)!

DO NOT waste your time with customer support. God this company Stinks!!!! For all Steve Jobs wants us to believe they are still a rebel against big corporate america I have never gotten this poor of level of customer support from any windows based hardware or software I have purchased. I guess I should be happy that they didn't charge me for the call. Now to fix the fact that ITUNES has messed up my wife's machine with the blue screen of death......

Yeah. I am having the same problem here. 3kb file sizes on import. I rip them in Media player and Import the folder to my library. Only started with 4.9. What a crock. I am still hacked off about a hard drive crash that screwed me on having to treat the iPod like a disk to avoid overwriting everything on my wifes iPod. Manual transfer on that one. I am about to switch brands again.

I am a bit of an amateur "iPodder". Got my iPod yesterday and downloaded the newest version of iTunes...now when I try to play the track I get nothing.

I see from this discussion that I am not alone....can someone explain to me in kinda simple terms how I get round this problem.

I cant play tunes on iTunes or iPod.

Thanks

The driver firmware is unchanged despite dowmloading the MSI update.
When I purchased the computer Service Pack 2 was installed and I have not ever run Service Pack 1. Should I download Service Pack 1 from Microsoft and take it from there?

At this stage I am doing as others on this thread and downloading on my media player and transferring to the iTunes library (which works fine). I may purchase a new CD drive but only if all else fails.

I have a solution. By a Creative brand. I switched from RIO to iPod, and I can easily switch brands again. What I don't understand is why they have not pro-activly handled this recurring problem with a statement such as: " We have noticed a large amount of threads concerning this transfer issue, and we are working tirelessly to provide a hotfix for this. Please be patient as new issues appear with any upgrade." All I see them doing is asking for diagnostic information. Works with Media player and Real Player.

It's harsh, but - if this was Windows... there'd be a fix...

I'm totally disalusioned - I was brought up on a high from how I realsied for myself how good Apple is- I bought the dream, and now I'm on a downer. unfortunately I will never now recommend iTunes to anyone. I may be .0000001% of the user population - but...I suspect...

I'll now rip using media player or something and be forced to use iTUNES to get it onto my iPOD - just cos I payed for it.

I'm totally open to being told I'm a prat 'cos I didn't do something, honest, but from my perspective I'm a simple user that wanted to use his iPOD.

Oh hum. buy another PC I guess - NOT !

Bye
