iPhone 3G Accelerometer

Does anyone agree that changing the view in safari is more jerky than previous iPhone? iTunes seems smooth enough as does the photo gallery.
Or is ti possible that it is just my phone?
TIA,
John

Hi Simon,
Before I took my phone to the Apple Store for replacement, I did several restores (failed attempts to resolve the accelerometer problem). On the last restore, it was clear the restores weren't fixing anything and I simply chose not to re-sync my data to the phone.

Also, when I took the phone in, the Genius Bar did yet another restore.

I don't know if it's possible to recover data from a phone that's been restored, sorry.

Well karenclassic got a new phone and the accelerometer issue was gone. You guys in the US are so lucky to have Apple stores with that kind of service. I still want to believe this is a firmware issue, but I don't want to be with this issue for a long time either. What do you guys recommend? My local company says it'll take at LEAST three weeks to see if the phone is repaired or if I get a new one.

Thanks Karenclassic. I'll restore without syncing, and will try my luck at the Apple Store.

Out of interest, has anybody had any issues obtaining an exchange with an intermittent fault? My problem is frequent enough to be really frustrating, but sometimes (without any apparent reason or underlying pattern) disappears on waking. I'm guessing that Apple are unlikely to offer an exchange unless I can demonstrate the problem in-store?

I worried about this, as well. I finally decided I'd go to an Apple store, describe what I was experiencing, let them examine the phone, and hopefully they'd replace it.

I think alot of it depends on the genius bar you visit. I explained that I'd actually thought about keeping the phone, but was concerned enough to have it checked out. The genius bar folks were very responsive and didn't hassle me.

I'd say this: If you're concerned enough to think it's worthwhile getting it replaced, then it's worth a trip to the genius bar. There are no guarantees, but I think you have a fairly good chance they'll replace the phone based on the behavior you've described.

FWIW, 2.0.2 appears to have made absolutely no difference to my accelerometer orientation problems.

I can only conclude that it's a hardware issue, so my phone will definitely be going back to the store.

Anybody else noticed an improvement?

Actually, since I updated yesterday, I haven't had to restart the phone once to get back my accelerometer. Prior 2.0.2 it worked just after a restart, but never after sleep, just as many others reported here.

But now it seems to be alright! I'll post here directly if I notice the bug again.

Hi everybody,
I have the same problem and it is not a hardware issue, because we live in a digital world and it means that it works or not but no maybe or eventually or sometimes.
The effect depends on the Iphone hardware but it´s a software issue and comes from a programming error, like a buffer over run, an interface problem or both. If it would be an hardware error it would never work but we all have no problems after a reset or restart BUT we all have the same hardware that differ from the other. All Iphones are same BUT ours are more same :-DDD
I hope that FW 2.1 will fix this, too.
