Roll back to 4.9, problems, 5.0 is a disaster!

I foolisly cliked yes to the upgrade to 5.0. There are multiple problems with this and I dont know why Apple subjects us to them. I cannot waste time with it. The worst problem is with my Linksys wireless router, it now does not work. So no internet support, I am doing this from work! There are other problems too, just read this forum. I re-insatlled 4.9 off a disk but it wont open cause "library is made with newer version"
Please can some-one give me clear instuctions on how to fix this problem, so I can use 4.9 which worked fine with NO PROBLEMS. This is ridiculous. I think this solution must be here somewhere, but cant seem to find it!
Bottom line.....DONT upgrage, it not worth it at all!

David,

Can you try disabling the Bonjour Service that the new iTunes 5 installed and see if that gets your internet back? This turns off sharing in iTunes, but the rest of the functionality should work fine.

I would have to re-install 5.0, Where would I disable the Bonjour Service, under preferences? The other problems I had with 5.0, was firstly I had to download a stand alone version of Quick-time the verison that came with 5.0 would not work. Secondly when I play a CD, i-tunes does not give track names and data of the CD unless I resart the machine and then it only does it ONCE, and I have to resart again. It does not matter which drive I use too. I have two.

Amazingly it's true. I also installed itunes 5.0 and it killed my D-Link router. I couldn't believe that this could happen, but after re-installing itunes 3 times now, and then each time having to re-configure and re-boot the router, I'm sure that is the problem.

And like you, I now cannot go back to 4.9, so I can't sync with my iPod at all. A pretty nasty problem, wonder what Apple will do.

I'm having the same problem as well. My computer gets hung up when Installing Quicktime. I have tried uninstalling it, and re-installing, but that is not working either. Please help!

It is a relief to find I'm not alone. I have lost hours this weekend when I lost Internet access via my D-Link Router when I accepted the upgrade to iTunes 5. I would love a way to roll back; I have had to disconnect my router and the rest of my household to use my old BT Broadband modem to get on and look for assistance.

I am buying a 50ft ethernet cable TODAY so I can go back online at home. THis is crazy. Any one with any ideas on the error message 'cannot use library, as it was made with a later version', so that I can return to running good old 4.9. What was is so great about 5.0 anyway, it hardly seems worth it.

Yes, I'm having the same problem. Life was great with the previous version. I think I found out the reason for the issue. Apple wants to charge you 49.00 for tech support for their software bug. Looks like it is a built-in money maker because my computer hangs up now and I can't use any other software with the ipod. That is the only reason I can think of that they would put a version out there that is un tested. Can you say class action?

WHY DOES APPLE INSIST ON RELEASING ITUNES FULL OF BUGS!!! THE LEAST THEY COULD DO IS OFFER SOME SUPPORT!!!! I'm now without iTunes, which is just amazinge cause my iPod has about 50 songs on it...i'm not wasting any more tume with iTunes until the next version comes out...oh wait, maybe that one will include viruses?!!?

No no. I can only think we are used as the beta testers. It seem that way with all the problems evrytone is having. I mean is ther ANYONE with 5.0 that works fine with NO problems. Hello Apple anybody home? Anybody listening?
Any advice on the library error message I am getting now that I rolled back to 4.9.

I have three ipod users on this machine, with over 3500 songs, on the HD. Really need to get 4.9 working again

Hey Area-51 I did a vrus scan, after 5.0 gave me problems but it was OK. Also looked for Adware with Lavasoft...nothing. I like your motto "back-up your music". How do think I should back up my 3500 songs now that itunes wont read my library. can use Real Media to read my itune library. As Apple seem to be very silent about this mess.

1. is your music on your pc?
2. its easier if you have a dvd burner with that amount of songs.
3. make a data disk of all your music using around 3 dvd disks (3200 songs used 2.5)

I'm in the same boat and the only thing that I can come up with is completely un-installing version 5 and the latest iPod update, rename my old iTunes library (that has been opened with v5) then downloading the software to pull the 4.9 library off my iPod then re-installing 4.9... is this even a valid idea? Will this whip out all the files that could mess with 4.9? Or is this just a huge wasting of my time?
