iPhone 3G Lag is intolerable! Video examples included.

I was literally JUST about to post something on the lag. It's terrible! I don't wan to have to do a hard reset on my brand new iPhone every time it does this! Hurry up apple, people are getting impatient.

I have the same problem. Makes search contacts useless. Takes way to long. Does seem to be just 2.0 related. iPhone 2G has the problem here but only with 2.0 software. With 1.1.4 software all is good.
Left feedback. Everyone should do the same, they do read bug reports.

I just tried to send a text message on my iPhone (3g 16GB White, 5A347), and the typing was unbearable. It literally processed about one letter per second. I could queue them up, but it was still very cumbersome and I had to do a hard reset to get around this.

Memory leak on some part of the 2.0 software perhaps? Does the iPhone have a swap file on the actual memory inside the phone aside from the 128MB of RAM?

Keep this thread alive, I think this is the worst bug across all units running the 2.0 firmware. The people that say it doesn't happen to them are delusional it happens to all units. Eventually.

I completely agree, using the 2.5G was an absolute breeze and now using the 3G, i constantly get thrown out of apps, the transitions and overall fluidity of the phone latches and freezes and all this at a very cheap price ?

I have an issue with the contacts, typing, delete getting "stuck" and deleting whole sentences in safari, and some apps freezing then taking a minute or two to close.

I have the 2.0 5A345 and I haven't tried a restore with the 5A347 yet but I did do a hard reset after reading this thread and the lag disappeared. However since running Pandora(radio app) for the last few minutes it seems the lag is coming back in the contacts but so far thats it.

Im starting to think its not a software issue but the third party apps that are causing the problem(then again I know nothing about code so Im hoping Apple can do an update that will fix the lag problem)

I also have the volume lowering its self after I get a call or a text message

Bumping for continuing lag on a 2.0 first generation phone. Unacceptable. Going to try to upgrade to latest revision of firmware and see if that fixes it. Apple ought to be giving refunds out for monthly service fees with AT&T or else class action pressure might be the only way to get attention.

I will advice to upgrade to 5A347
to me at least it removed the lag (though it wasnt as bad as what the video showed)
but i did have lag on loading the contacts.app and viewing smss...
so surely restore (ie update to the latest firmware release!)

I am also glad to know I'm not the only one a bit frustrated with this supposed new and better Iphone. My old Iphone worked better and faster then this one! I need to fish out my receipt and see how long I have to return/ exchange this thing. This is nuts!

My iPod touch also has this "new" lag!

The OS was lagging slightly when I first got my iPhone (ranging from slight unresponsiveness when scrolling through contacts, to significant delays within the SMS app where typed letters were appearing like 5 to 6 characters at a time.) I did a restore to "upgrade" to 3A47 and the phone had since had no lags - exactly the same performance as the iPhone 2G. I've got about 20 apps installed.

Will report back if the lag comes back (which would mean that the temporary removal of the lag was due to the act of restoring, rather than a different firmware being in place.)

I actually experience something similar. I've been putting it down to not being familiar enough with the phone.

My sample is not as bad as your video, but I am occasionally pushing the buttons twice and the scroller definitely does not want to scroll, frequently.

I have similar problems not as bad ~~ my text messaging is instant thought, no lag on the keyboard at all ~~ so far.

Is there anyone that doesnt have this problem?
