iPhone wifi not working

Ok so as of two days ago, my iphone has had major difficulties finding wifi networks, let alone connecting onto any of them. I live in an apartment complex and normally my iPhone shows a list of around 20 different networks, but now my phone sees none of them. I can even lay my phone on top of my router, and still nothing. Earlier today I passed by an Apple store, and my phone couldn't even pickup the free wifi there. I have already tried resetting my network settings to default on my iPhone, restored my iPhone, and still nothing.

Anybody else having this problem?

This is crazy........I just popped mine in the freezer for 10 minutes and yes it worked almost immediately (for only about a minute). I just threw it back in for a little longer. Apple needs to recall these phones. I'm on my second phone with the same issues.

Try resetting your router it worked for me. Turn router off press the reset button then turn back on

Exactly!!

Just loaded iOs4.1 onto my iPhone 3GS

Cannot join wifi at home any more - error message "unable to join the network xxxx"
Have spent unproductive morning trying EVERYTHING with router & phone

iPhone still won't join wifi network it normally gets into straight away.

Awful!!

This is clearly ios4.1 issue

Yes, I have the exact same problem. Wifi is out, and can´t be fixed. The first year is over. This is unbelievable!

iPhone = not reliabe? Where is quality? So I´m really wondering what to do next!!!

Toyota had it´s callbacks in US and I think if this problem is as wide as it seems, Apple should do the same. To have integrity and backbones. If there´s a known design failure issue, that is.

I am one person who is considered pretty technical when it come to electronics or mechanical.. so reading about the freezer trick, I wasnt convinced.. in fact, I was skeptical about it.. how does freezing an iPhone for a duration of time helps.. but then again I HAVE tried every other method there is in the internet..nothing works..! finally I was thinking to myself, oh what the ****, I have nothing much to lose.. so I threw the phone in the freezer (with every care taken of course).. aaaaaaaaaaand guess wht? voila..! my wifi came back..!

seriously... can someone PLEASE explain the logic..?

I wish I saw this thread earlier. I started one on my own. I have the same problem. Freezer fix works for me as well. I get a couple minutes of normal operation then it dies again. If I am more than 10 feet away from my access point then I don't get a signal.

The only replies I have received in that thread are from a bunch of nasty fanatics.

I see Apple has a posted some info regarding wifi problems and iphones but they all say to send it in for repair. So, my initial question still stands. Should I bother getting mine fixed, upgrade to an iPhone4 or get something else? It is starting to look like the iPhone4 has the same problem based on some threads I have read.

If Apple would tell us what the issue is then we can make a logical choice. If they say nothing then we have to assume that the issue has not been corrected.

Mine is the original iPhone 2G running OS 3.1.3, jailbroken. For some reason, i have been having the same issue about wifi dropping and not being able to scan for wifi networks for last 1 month. was about to dump the phone already.

The freezer trick worked too. I left it in my freezer for 2 hours and lo and behold my wifi is perfect since past 8-9 hours. Hope it remained.

I had the same isuse, iphone 3gs would stop detecting wifi networks, and not work anymore. It started 3-4 months ago, and I went MONTHS without wifi. I have had the same phone and router equipment for a year, and nothing else changed. Sometimes wifi would pop up for a brief second but then go away. Was tempted to try oven and freezer tricks, but didnt want to break my phone. Finnally I found a fix:

Here is how I fixed mine:

NO FREEZER or OVEN trick needed.

Just let the battery die. I used the phone until it had nothing left, and kept trying to power it on (even though it showed the red battery thingie) and just kept doing that for a day or so. I made sure the battery was dead, and when I juiced it back up to 100% wifi has been working. That was 2 months ago, and I was waiting ot make sure it was no fluke.

Problem hasnt resurfaced since.

Easy fix to try, just let the battery die if you are having Wifi issues and juice it up to 100% after killing it and the wifi should come back (atleast this has been my experience).

Someone else with the problem please give this a try..

My wifi stopped picking up anything and I tried all of your posted solutions but this one worked for me:

My power button works sporadically so i need to hit the phone a couple of times for it to work. Anyway, it seems like that disconnected my wifi antenna. When i opened my phone the plug at the top left corner - closer to the audio jack - was in fact disconnected. It took two seconds to put it all back together and now I got wifi again - phew!

Anyway, if nothing else worked for you make sure you check the internal connections. Also, if it is a hardware problem you can ebay the part for cheap.

I don't have time to read through all the responses right now. I'm new to these forums. Not much tech geek but I do like my gadgets. I have an iPhone 4 that I purchased in October. It's been great up until now. The wifi is not working very well. The campus I am on has free wifi most places. Right now I am on my iPod touch and connected to the wifi. I can browse as normal. My iPhone is also connected to the network but says it is not connected to the Internet. I restarted the phone, disconnected and forgot the network, then reconnected, renewed the lease, everything. Nothing seems to work. Is there something I can do or should I send it in?

Hi guys

I had a iPhone 3g with working wifi. Recently I upgraded to an iPhone4. After ATT deactivated the old 3g, my wifi does not work any more. It shows that its looking for the networks but then no networks are shown. I am curious if ATT locks the wifi when its deactivated or is this some hardware/software issue. How can I find out if this is a hardware or software issue. Currently my phone is on iOS 3.1.3. I have tried to reset my network settings and even all the settings but it didn't help 😟. Please help.

So- after many, MANY, hours of searching, I cannot find any solution to the fact that sometimes my 3GS iPhone detects WIFI and sometimes it doesn't, and sometimes it shows up on BT and sometimes it doesn't.

The closest I can come to an answer is that there is something inherently flawed in the antenna.

Is this correct?

I'm a huge Apple fan, and own several computers. This is my 3rd phone... so please spare the flaming I see so often on here, but I can't help but be bothered by literally hundreds of pages of posts about this issue going back years, and seemingly no answer or solutions.

Am I just missing something?

From the Home Screen, I clicked on "Settings". From there, I scrolled down to "General" and clicked on it. From there, I scrolled to the bottom, clicked "Reset", then "Reset Network Settings". After accepting the warning that I was doing something dangerous and clicking the giant red button, the iPhone started buzzing and shaking and generally throwing a fit. After it was done getting reset, I simply went back into Settings -> Wifi, saw my network, connected and it worked!
