iPhone wifi not working
Anybody else having this problem?
Thanks in advance.
Mac OS X (10.5.4)
Mac OS X (10.5.4)
Turning off Blutooth corrected the problem on my 3GS.
My 3GS using iOS 5.0.1 was showing a complete blank under WiFi networks. I tried unplugging and re-plugging my router first since this is an occasional problem that effects all the iPhones/iPads/laptops in the house, but upon re-booting, there still wasn't any sign on my iPhone of a wifi network being available. I checked my ipad2 and the wifi was working just fine, so I knew it had to be an issue with my phone and not my router. I decided to try the simplest and least invasive solution first and it worked like a charm. I went Settings>General>Bluetooth and slid the setting to Off (I'm not sure why it was on!). My phone immediately showed a WiFi connection at the top and is working just fine now.
This cannot be a problem with the hardware..I have an iphone & 3 ipod touches..after my latest update, NONE of our ipods or the iphone will connect to wifi!!!! I am SOOO angry!! You would think after spending that amount of money on this crap, it would work!!! It will recognize the networks but are unable to connect.. I have tried all the suggestions for the last 2 & 1/2 months now & NOTHING works!! I wont even say what I want to do to Apple!!! It has to be a problem that they are just not fixing because if they did, people wouldnt have to buy new ones & thats less money to line their pockets!!
ok, im done venting now but, i still need my s**t fixed!!! =)

I'm experiencing this same problem. It is definitely a phone problem, not a router problem. My MBP, iMac, iPad all work fine with wifi at home and away from home. iPhone 3GS has stopped working with wifi at home or away. I've tried the suggestions posted previously and nothing worked. Apple Genius talked as if I was the only person in the world with this problem, suggested maybe replacing the phone (***?).
iOS 5.0.1
iPhone 3GS
Any help or insight would be much appreciated.
I tried everything, nothing worked. Luckily I was due an upgrade, and since getting the 4s there's been no problems of this nature at all.
Must admit, the 4s is lovely if that's any help.
Thanks Fill or Kill! This method worked right away! I tried so many other methods they worked for a minute or two but this one holds on tight. Although after the reboot my carrier was undetected, it was quickly resolved by re-inserting my sim. Thanks again!
Seriously guys, the freezer method works best!
So.. I just came back to America after my holiday and the wifi was working fine that night. I woke up the next day and the wifi could not be detected and I was freaking out BAD! I quickly made a Genius Bar appointment to somewhere 50 miles away from my location with a bad jetlag (because the other Apple stores were all fully booked for some reason) and Genius guy did a hard reboot for me twice (could not detect wifi the first time and could not detect sim card the second time and had to reinsert it) and did the reset networking thing.. took him almost an hour to fix it, he explained that my mail system was jammed (which i think was ridiculous since he did the factory reset twice.. )
So.. I came home and I still could not find my wifi (even my ipod with an IOS 3 could find the wifi while my iphone 4 couldn't) and I did lots of intense researching and finally found this topic on the forum and tried all the methods (including restoring it for the 3rd time of the day). And FINALLY just when I was giving up hope, I tried the freezer method and it worked!
I hope it works out for you.. I understand how frustrated not having wifi could be.. I ain't paying extra money to use data roaming! Good luck!
Hi iPhone 4G Wi-Fi experts 🙂
Yesterday our Netgear Cable Modem died. It's bridged to a TP-Link wireless router. I bought a used Motorola Surfboard, bridged it, plugged into the WAN port of the TP-Link router, and in no time home internet (wireless and wired). 2 Laptops, an Apple Airport Express, an iPhone 3G, a T-Box (type of PVR with limited internet content) all connected wirelessly, 2 PCs, a VOIP phone, a Netgear NAS etc etc all connected via ethernet.
As far as most of these devices were concerned, nothing had happened. The phone and one PC needed a power off restart, however all fine afterwards.
However, we have 2 iPhone 4Gs (IOS 5.0.1) which find the wireless network, are allocated IP addresses (usually around 192.168.1.106 which is in the range I've set in the router's DHCP settings), and show DNS as the IP address of the router (which is outside the DHCP range). The router also shows the MAC address(es) of the iPhone(s) - however it doesn't show the "Fred Smith's iPhone 4G", which does happen with the 3G that's connected.
However neither work on Wi-Fi, and the Wi-Fi icon doesn't replace the "3G" at the top of the screen, which you see when you connect to a wireless network. In Settings -> Wi-Fi, the network shows. I've tried:
I haven't tried connecting to another Wireless network, however I'm pretty confident they'll both work elsewhere.
Everytime the network is found, and when the password is entered, the Wi-Fi icon appears in the top left fleetingly then disappears.
Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. As noted above, the iPhone 3G DOES work on Wi-Fi.
IPHONE 4 WHITE
I Rebooted my router, turned bluetooth on/off, restored my iphone and still have issues with my wifi connecting.
PS: It chooses to work at times and then sometimes but 9/10 doesnt want to and it doesnt ask if there are other location (wifi) i would like to connect to but on my old 3gs it would do it all the time.
PLEASE HELP ME OUT!!!!
Well after more testing, I enabled DHCP on the Motorola modem, and WiFi suddenly worked on both 4s - even though the TP-Link is the one providing the connection and the IP address to the iPhones.
Go figure...
My 4s iphone would not connect to att uverse. Tried every setting on the phone with no luck. Could see my modem and used the correct code to connect but still no luck. I pressed the reset button on the back of the modem for about 5 seconds and released. When the modem finally did its reboot the wifi immediately connected and not a problem since. I was ready to go to the att store and demand a new phone. Hope this might help someone with iphone and uverse.
Enabling DHCP on my wireless routers fixed the problem as well. And just like willyro, even with DHCP enabled at the wireless router level the IP address are still being assigned out of the scope from our main DHCP server not the scope set on the wireless router.
Problem Details: In an Office network 5 different iPhone4 phones started losing connection with the wireless network, when it lost connection the search for wireless networks would not find any SSIDs and would constantly be searching for networks in range. A hard reset of the phone would correct the problem but it would reoccur. Also tried the reset of network settings, and the "airplane mode fix" both worked for a minute but the problem would reoccur. Also after a iPhone started experiencing problems on the office network it would not recognize any SSID until it was reset. Then it could find other networks and behaved normally until it tried to rejoin the office network at which point the problem would reoccur. This only effected iPhone4. Users with a 3GS and several with 4GS where not effected. All phones where up-to-date with iOS 5.0.1. It is also possible that this issue was effecting MacBooks connecting to office network, but I could not confirm that this was a joint cause.
Had the same problem- my iPhone 4 would not find a network overnight, even though the phone was right next to my 2wire router. Another iPhone, 2 iPads, 2 laptops and a printer were all hooked up to the wifi with no problems. I completely turned off my iPhone and turned it back on and everything worked fine.
I have certainly not experienced nearly the level of frustration that others on this post have felt. However, considering the iPhone is a computer that we leave turned on for as much as a year at a time, there are bound to a be a few problems now and then. And as long as it works as a phone... I can't complain.
What worked with me was, go to settings>general>network, then turn of l cellular data and restart your phone. , the it should say searching... Where it says Vodafone Uk or O2, then it should be in wifi
My iPhone 4 would not connect with my home wifi either. What worked for me was using the original password for the router, the password that's on a sticker on the outside of the router itself (I believe it's listed as the "WEP key" and be careful to not confuse a zero for an "O" or vice versa).
Like a lot of people, when I got the new router (same time I got Verizon FIOS) I reset the password for the router to a password of my choice. For along time it worked fine with this same iPhone 4, and interestingly that custom password never stopped working for the other devices in my house (iPad, MacBook, etc).
