iPhone wifi not working

Ok so as of two days ago, my iphone has had major difficulties finding wifi networks, let alone connecting onto any of them. I live in an apartment complex and normally my iPhone shows a list of around 20 different networks, but now my phone sees none of them. I can even lay my phone on top of my router, and still nothing. Earlier today I passed by an Apple store, and my phone couldn't even pickup the free wifi there. I have already tried resetting my network settings to default on my iPhone, restored my iPhone, and still nothing.

Anybody else having this problem?

Thanks in advance.

My issue is slightly different.
I have a 10MB internet connection at home, and my laptop always receives the full 10MB perfectly fine.
My iPhone used to be fine until I made the mistake of upgrading to 3.1.3.

Now, my iPhone still connects to the wifi fine, and I can browse web pages. However I cant view Youtube or iPlayer etc. Why? Because rather then connecting to my wifi at a decent speed like before, I now only get 0.03MB speeds!! Everything is just so slow.

Even my 3G connection is faster then that!
I now have to switch to 3G to watch a Youtube video!

Ive tried resetting settings, restoring both from a backup and as a new phone - nothing. I do sometimes get 7-8MB via wifi on my iPhone, but after a few mins it just drops back down again.

Only had my iPhone 2 months now, and its really getting on my nerves now!

Tried ewifi, willing to try anything to fix this problem, but ewifi did not work for me.

Also tried the other suggestion to reset the phone under general setting, but reset the network setting only, phone restarted, turned wifi back on, but it still did not work. Does not see any networks.

As it stands I'm still not able to use wifi. At least I can still use 3G and live in an area with strong 3G signal.

I had the same problem with a 3GS phone I bought last weekend. I called Apple and they replaced the phone which then worked fine -- for two days before the same problem occurred. I then found a post that said the problem sometimes occurs when the phones address for the router and the DNS are the same address. So, I changed the DNS address in the phone to 208.67.220.220 and voila, the phone worked. I think 208.67.222.222 also might work. To check this go to settings>wi-fi>bluearrow. Now, the phone has worked for several days but I had to reset it once. My router is an Airport Extreme dual band.

Let me know if this works.

Along with every other suggestion on the discussion board, I tried eWIFI previously and no luck restoring my iPhone 3G's ability to see WIFI. I bit the bullet and spent 2.99 purchasing WiFiFoFum today, and no change, still no WIFI. I would not recommend anyone else spending 2.99 for WiFiFoFum as a solution to this problem.

I love the iPhone and have a trunkload of apps, so guess I'll just wait for the next gen iPhone to come along and next time I will buy the extended warranty so if it happens again I can just return it back to Apple. Obviously this is not a problem they know how to address or resolve. Hopefully they're at least aware of it.

Allright, finally did it, and I have to say, it was expensive, but I found a fix for the wifi issues. I bought four Nexus One to replace my apple 3gs and all three 3g's, everything works now, especially wifi. Even the 3g coverage with tmobile is much better than I had with ATT. I'll try them for a week and if all continues to be good, ill look into ebaying my MAC as well. Been an Apple customer for over 20 years but I have had it with the way they do things.

Like many, I had an original 2G iPhone. It has worked perfectly since day 1.
I skipped the 3G but got a day 1 issue 3Gs for the speed and 4X storage as my 8Gig 2G, but I was assured by ATT that moving my account to the new 3Gs would let my 2G work like a Touch -- all functions, including WiFi, just no telcom related functions-voice,MMS, etc. Which it did.

My plan was to give the 2G to my teen daughter, which I did. She also has several versions of iPods - original, mini, and nano, but liked the additional functions of the 2G, particularly the WiFi (mainly for Facebook). But with so many options, she left the 2G in the glove box of my car this past fall and just never got back to it.

Until this weekend. Said she had been wondering where she left it and didn't want to tell me. Was relieve to discover she hadn't lost it. No Prob. But we got busy and forgot to charge it up. So last night I plugged into the comp to charge it up and got the firmware upgrade to 3.1.3 prompt, (I had upgraded the firmware on my 3Gs earlier and have had no problems), so I let 'er rip.

Little did I know. As soon as the firmware installed, I totally lost the ability to connect to my home wifi network, which I had been having no problems with since the original purchase. My immediate thought was a firmware glitch --- DUH!

So I search this forum and was aghast at all the problems with firmware upgrades or just lost wifi capability. So I tried fooling around with all the settings, turning things on and off (I skipped some of the tips that are really just impractical like the freezer trick)all to no avail.

Call to Apple Support is the next stop. I explain the issue, and understand we first have to go through all the steps, and I am patient, so we do, all, as I had predicted at the outset, to no avail. At which point, the tech guy says he has to hand me off to a product specialist, which he does. I again explain the issue, only to be told that Apple doesn't roll back firmware. (I'm patient - been down this road before -- firmware is firmware - sometimes an upgrade works, sometimes, it just creates a mess but most comp parts makers- video cards, cpus, motherboards, whatever, and most software outfits who put out drivers, realize this and make it easy to roll back to an earlier version so you can tweak around until you get something that works.) Apple's policy, as the product guy explained, was not to do this. Instead, their conclusion is that it is not their firmware, but the product that must be broken, in my case, just serendipitously at the exact same time I upgraded to 3.1.3. OoooKaaaayy! And for $199 they would repair my broken 2G. No thanks, I say. Surely you can email me prior firmware versions. Nope, he says, BUT (finally sticking his neck out and going beyond "policy")--- just Google "iPhone firmware" and give it a try.

So, I do. I downloaded 2.2.1; 3.0; 3.0.1; and 3.1(7C144).

Starting at the oldest, I tried to (iPhone would not allow 2.2.1 to be installed) or did install each fw version. Nothing worked until I got to 3.1.
BINGO!

I did turn ON bluetooth and then reentered my WPA code for my home wifi router (remember this is different than you standard password)and suddenly, not only was I detecting the home net (which I could do with all other fw installs including 3.1.3, but just could not connect), but got a quick and smooth connection.

Don't be fooled. Much of this IS a firmware problem. But sometimes, there may be a hardware problem. But probably less often that you would think.

If you try this, and have a problem loading the earlier fw, for Windows users, "Shift click" on the "Restore" button in iTunes and navigate to the folder into which you put your downloaded fw file.

Hope it works for you too.

Hi folks,

I've just got a 3gs and am attempting to connect to to wifi at home. It keeps coming up as 'incorrect password', but it's definitely the right one. I've quadruple checked this thing over and over again!

Have also tried: resetting, resetting network settings, turning it off and on again, trawling through the forums to find solutions... I'm afraid that's all I;ve come up with and nothing's worked so far.

Any ideas?
