This is a version of Handbrake that enables the "Baseline" profile instead of the "Main" profile. That was the whole problem with the videos not being able to transfer to the iPod when using the H.264 codec. Now, I tried it & it works great!
there are plenty of programs for Win users videora and total video converter are ones i've heard so far and to my understanding work, also there is programs like nero recode and other major converter programs that do what u need
The speed for me seems pretty fast. A 2 hour movie takes about 2 hours (give or take a few minutes) to convert to H264 using 1 pass at 768 kbps/128 bitrate/44 sample rate. Its always gonna take longer to convert H264 video because of the way it compresses the file.
I wouldnt use 2 pass unless you really really need the video to look its absolute best. But to me, the difference isnt worth it. You can do a comparison & you will see what I mean.
That download seems exactly the same as the one I got over the weekend?? No noticable differance at all. Could you give us all a quick 'how to' to get the outcome you have? Does it differ from this in anyway?
Gilford, it is essentially the same App as you got before. But, this one now makes the proper Baseline H.264 video so it can be transferred to the iPod.
That guide you posted is almost 100% correct except one small detail. In "Figure 4: Selecting The Proper Codec" instead of choosing "Mpeg-4 Video/AAC Audio" you need to choose "AVC/H.264 Video/AAC Audio." Follow everything else & you will be good to go.
Nathan, it kinda depends on what the source video is,what kind of TV its on, etc. But I have an HDTV & didnt notice much difference on the tests I done. 2 pass will always look better, but in some cases maybe not better enough to merit the longer encoding time/bigger file size.
Best thing to do is make 2 copies of the same video (maybe just like the first chapter of the DVD) using both 1 & 2 pass, then see if you can tell a difference.
No problem. Hey, San Anton! I was just up that way. I picked up my iPod at the new Apple Store there at La Cantera. Thats a freakin sweet little mall you guys got there.
Hey guys, is this all you need to do if you have a Mac and the new ipod? I think I read somewhere about using Toast to do something... I'm not sure.
Also, with regards to the Audio section in the tutorial for HandBrake, under Language 1, the tutorial says to check mpeg, but thats not there to check off. its got the 5 ch/ 2 ch info there.
yeah i've been waiting for a LONG time to get our Apple store, but looks like it was worth the wait, as it's one of the biggest 1 story floor plans they have.
and yes the new Shops at La Cantera is awesome! BUT the parking is horrid, i guess since it's the new "place to be". so hopefully after a couple months it will die down a bit.
Thanks for the info ...
I started ripping an old Dr Who DVD to test out the software. Found the option just fine. Single pass looked like a 2.5 hr process with a dual G5.
Will let you kown it looked when i get home night.
Doesn't seem to be working for me... I downloaded from this link and I set it to the H.264 codec, but it won't sync with the iPod. The original option of ripping from handbrake and converting with qtpro worked...
