Bluetooth Headset mic records static sound only

Hi Everybody.

I see there are some posts here that talk about difficulties using bluetooth headset on a Mac. I just wanted to outline my own specific issue in hopes that someone had the same experience and have a solution.

I have a MacBook Pro (current line) which I have tried to use a bluetooth headset with in order to use for Skype calls. First I tried using the Sony Ericsson HBH-PV703 which paired without problems and I can hear audio just fine. However, the mic does not record my voice, it gives off this strange static sound that beats periodic. I thought this was due to using a cheap headset so I decided to get a nice one. I got the Jawbone 2, but same thing happens. The audio comes out clear, but static on through my mic.

This is not a Skype issue, because I can easily record the static sound through Quicktime pro or I can just observe the sound with the Sound Input system preference.

Anyone else experience this?

Thanks.

I have this exact same problem. The static and the beating.

The thing is my bluetooth headset worked fine with 10.5.4! I could even use Skype with it. Unfortunately, I changed two things on my computer right before it stopped working.

I added the Airport Extreme Card and then I upgraded to 10.5.5. So it could be either of those changes that caused the problems. Once I have some free time I am going to try and debug it by removing the airport extreme Card.

If anyone has had some luck please reply or e-mail me.

I'm having the exact same problem.

Running OS X 10.5.5 - up-to-date Bluetooth software, I've tried TWO different bluetooth headsets, and all I get is static on the input.

When I look at System Preferences/Sound/Input, and then select the bluetooth headset, the bars on the meter just peg out all the way to the right, and then fluctuate up and down. When I record the sound it's just static and digital noise.

MAC? What's up?

I'm having the same problem. Tried multiple headsets and still have the same problem. Apple Support told me I would have to take it in to have it serviced, but the nearest place is 4 hours away, and I have to have this computer for work (which I also need the bluetooth headset for).
I even tried a D-Link DBT-120 usb bluetooth adapter (assuming after my Apple Support conversation that there was somethign wrong with the bluetooth chip). Still the same problem. This is software related, and it needs to be fixed pronto.

I am so glad I a not the only one with this exact same problem.

I have 3 different brand headsets (ranging from cheap to expensive) and they all work with my old Powerbook G4. However none of them work with the new iMac. I have sent my iMac away for repairs and it came back with a note saying they could not get the same problem i described to them to happen in the shop. They also cant tell me what kind of headset they were using so successfully!!. I am not sure about you others, but it takes about 1minute for the static noise to start so i feel that Apple Repair place did not wait that minute and just saw it working fine and stopped straight away. The strange thing is that Apple support here in Japan and also the Apple Store both said they have not heard any complaints about this (and it seems all the staff in the store do not use headsets with the iMac. I even tested my 3 headsets with an iMac in the Apple store and the exact same thing happened, so it does not seem to be an isolated thing.

Both the Apple helpline and Apple store could offer no ideas to fix this. They only suggested that they come and collect my iMac and headsets together this time and test it again. I think i will print out these messages to show them it is happening all over.

If anyone out there does have a headset that is working with the iMac, please do tell us about it as i really want to get one that works.

Thanks,
Bryce

Add me to the list with this problem (no solution, unfortunately!). I think it's a combined hardware/software issue. I am using Bluetooth headsets on Macs since 2005 (mostly with Skype). In the beginning, everything was ok (at least with stable Skype versions) on a PowerBook G4. Then I had a friend of mine getting an Intel Mac with Tiger. He had occasional issues with his Plantronics Bluetooth headset in that here and there I could hear some of his words repeated once or even twice in a short loop of about one second.

Then another friend of mine upgraded his PowerBook G4 to Leopard: huge Bluetooth problems, almost unusable. Several Leopard upgrades later, he can now use Bluetooth headsets, but occasionally I can hear this strange "repeated words" loop.

Last week I upgraded to a MacBook Pro (fall 2008), obviously with Leopard; now Bluetooth headsets are unusable due to the static noise coming out of the microphone. I made intensive tests, if you try right after rebooting the computer, it works relatively ok for a while (something like one to three minutes). Then it starts by repeating words in a loop which then turns into the well known cyclic static. A new reboot makes Bluetooth headset again for a short while usable (logout/login does not help). I tested with three different Bluetooth headsets, two Plantronics and one SonyEricsson -- same result with all of them.

I wonder if Apple is aware of this issue. Maybe we should write an e-mail to Steve, it seems it works sometimes.
