Bluetooth Headset mic records static sound only

Hi Everybody.

I see there are some posts here that talk about difficulties using bluetooth headset on a Mac. I just wanted to outline my own specific issue in hopes that someone had the same experience and have a solution.

I have a MacBook Pro (current line) which I have tried to use a bluetooth headset with in order to use for Skype calls. First I tried using the Sony Ericsson HBH-PV703 which paired without problems and I can hear audio just fine. However, the mic does not record my voice, it gives off this strange static sound that beats periodic. I thought this was due to using a cheap headset so I decided to get a nice one. I got the Jawbone 2, but same thing happens. The audio comes out clear, but static on through my mic.

This is not a Skype issue, because I can easily record the static sound through Quicktime pro or I can just observe the sound with the Sound Input system preference.

Anyone else experience this?

I can also confirm that the issue has been solved (I am using a Plantronics Voyager 520).

However, there is still another issue not yet solved: when using the headset for instance with Skype, even after finishing a call (after hang-up), the headset remains connected to the computer; if you don't notice and manually disconnect it via the OSX Bluetooth menu, the headset's battery will prematurely be drained out.

The 10.5.7 update appears to have fixed the issue for me, too. I successfully used my headset with both iChat and Skype.

I'm curious about something that several people mentioned earlier: using a bluetooth dongle. How does OS X distinguish between the built-in bluetooth and the dongle? Would the two interfere with each other? Thanks.

I think I just figured it out: PLT 510, showed up as paired, but would not connect.
