Bluetooth Headset mic records static sound only

Hi Everybody.

I see there are some posts here that talk about difficulties using bluetooth headset on a Mac. I just wanted to outline my own specific issue in hopes that someone had the same experience and have a solution.

I have a MacBook Pro (current line) which I have tried to use a bluetooth headset with in order to use for Skype calls. First I tried using the Sony Ericsson HBH-PV703 which paired without problems and I can hear audio just fine. However, the mic does not record my voice, it gives off this strange static sound that beats periodic. I thought this was due to using a cheap headset so I decided to get a nice one. I got the Jawbone 2, but same thing happens. The audio comes out clear, but static on through my mic.

This is not a Skype issue, because I can easily record the static sound through Quicktime pro or I can just observe the sound with the Sound Input system preference.

Anyone else experience this?

Thanks.

MacBook Pro 2.5GHz 4GB RAM, Mac OS X (10.5.4)

I had the exact problems as identified in this thread. Paired up my BT (motorola h710) and set it up as my headset. I tried testing it on Ventrillo and all i got was static. After much reading on this thread a friend just told me to use my applecare and see what they said. so i did and she had me shutdown the system, remove the battery, and hold the power button down for 10 seconds (power management unit reset). i turned the system back on and everything worked fine and still does. i hope this helps

if you really wanna get your BT to work, without a dongle. if you have a macbook, i would suggest doing the reset. i attempted to get a old BT to work today and found that one still wouldnt work with a reset. so i had to resetup the new one again because i changed some input/output settings again. even knowing what i had to do this time it was still a pain to get it working right again. it didnt help that i just recently converted to a mac. when i got ventrillo to spit out some static, i closed out of my test session in ventrillo, shutdown, and did the reset to the computer. i tried this 3 times i think before it started working again. all i know is that im not changing a single setting again because its such a pain to set up again.

i take back what i have said, after using my BT for a couple hours today the sound just went to static again. instead of wasting more time on this issue im just gonna go with a usb wired headphone. if you get your BT to work it just seems that all the hassle plus the sound quality i was getting just isnt worth it. great idea but it seriously needs some work. anyone have some good alternatives to a BT mic?

I tried it, and it doesn't work. But let me clarify what you mean exactly, just so I can be sure.
1. Keep the laptop plugged in and turned on, but remove the battery.
2. Hold the power button down for 10 seconds.
3. Reinstall the battery. Turn on computer.

This is what it Reads like you mean, even though I don't think I would remove the battery while the laptop was still on. But then, why would I hold down the power button when there is no power at all?

I have the exact same problem. I even bought a new expensive BT headset that is meant to pair with computers. And has mac compatibility.
I have applecare...so I should get on the phone again and enter the revolving door of no return. I NEVER get help from applecare tech support. I don't call because I don't know how to do something, I call to let them know something isn't working right, but don't you know, that's impossible. Macs just work. It's bluetooth's fault, not the mac's fault.

Well, the fact is, Apple has great products but Apple is not a great company. They have NO support and their mantra is "Reload the OS and that should fix it, oh, and don't bother us again please". If Apple (the company) cared about customer service as much as they do coming out with new toys, they'd hire a few people to sit on these forums to keep people informed. Instead they totally ignore anything we have to say and work on what they want to work on. Just acting as if ignoring problems means they don't exist.

I'm having the same problems and would just suggest everyone forget BT on their MBP's as Apple can't make 5 year old technology work and doesn't care if you're having problems. But I'm sure they'll be coming out with a new hot product in the next few months.

So I have bought the BUA-100 dongle to use with my Plantronics Discovery 925 headset as discussed above, but I cannot get the two to pair.

I have already paired Discovery 925 to my Nokia mobile phone, which works perfectly with the phone, but it just does not want to pair to the dongle.
I have already activated the multi-point bluetooth feature on Discovery 925 - does not solve the issue. I also tried deleting the headset from my mobile phone and then pairing it 'as first device' to the Dongle - no luck.

My Mac itself obviously does not recognise the headset, so the only way I can use my headset with Skype is to pair it to BUA-100 dongle for which I have just paid GBP45. But even this does not seem to work.

What I do:
I plug the dongle into an empty USB slot in my iMac, it starts flashing blue (as far as I remember). Then I pinch the small button on the dongle, it starts flashing violet/red (or something similar) I suppose indicating pairing mode. Then I switch on my Plantronics 925, but nothing happens. Neither the dongle nor the headset shows any signs of pairing. The dongle just keeps flashing violet/red for about a minute or two, and then stops. When I select the BUA-100 as input/output in Skype's Audio preferences - I hear absolutely nothing. Mic does not work either.

Has anyone experienced this? Does anyone know how to solve it? Maybe faulty equipment (my dongle came in a bit of a makeshift packaging with no instructions)? I thought maybe once I paired my headset to a phone it won't pair to anything else (ever?). Surely this cannot be right.

Any help much appreciated.

Once you have the dongle flashing blue/red for pairing, you need to put the headset into pairing mode too. Hold down the main button on the headset for several seconds until it also flashes blue/red then it should pair. See my post earlier for a note on activating the connection once they are paired (you basically just push the button again as if answering a call).

Hope that helps.

Thanks for this. The problem is that if I hold down the main button on the headset it would simply switch off, then by holding it down again for several seconds it would switch back on. It does not flash blue/red. With Discovery 925 it is different with others it seems(eg. Voyager) or am I wrong.

Have you (or anyone) actually managed to get Plantronics Discovery 925 to pair up with the BUA-100 dongle and work perfectly on iMac?? It would be helpful to know this. Please ensure that you are using DISCOVERY 925:

as it seems some people confuse it with other devices...
