Bluetooth Headset mic records static sound only

Hi Everybody.

I see there are some posts here that talk about difficulties using bluetooth headset on a Mac. I just wanted to outline my own specific issue in hopes that someone had the same experience and have a solution.

I have a MacBook Pro (current line) which I have tried to use a bluetooth headset with in order to use for Skype calls. First I tried using the Sony Ericsson HBH-PV703 which paired without problems and I can hear audio just fine. However, the mic does not record my voice, it gives off this strange static sound that beats periodic. I thought this was due to using a cheap headset so I decided to get a nice one. I got the Jawbone 2, but same thing happens. The audio comes out clear, but static on through my mic.

This is not a Skype issue, because I can easily record the static sound through Quicktime pro or I can just observe the sound with the Sound Input system preference.

Anyone else experience this?

Thanks.

MacBook Pro 2.5GHz 4GB RAM, Mac OS X (10.5.4)

Astrobager is right: you have to put the headset in pairing mode too. All Plantronics headsets (and not only) use the same mechanism: while the headset is switched OFF, press the ON/OFF button UNTIL it enters the paring mode (LED flashing alternates between red and blue). It seems you simply don't have enough patience, you have to keep the ON/OFF button pressed past the switching ON point, it may take something like 10 seconds or more.

And after all, if you don't believe us, why don't you read the user manual?

Have you (or anyone) actually managed to get Plantronics Discovery 925 to pair up with the BUA-100 dongle and work perfectly on iMac?? It would be helpful to know this. Please ensure that you are using DISCOVERY 925:

Check out my post a way back up the page - I describe getting the discovery 925 working with the BUA-100 dongle on my macbook air. I think maybe you are just not holding down the button for long enough to put the headset in pairing mode. As lix says, make sure the headset is switched off first, then hold down the button.

If that doesn't work, you may have a faulty headset, or maybe you have mistaken it for a different headset 😉

As it started with 10.5.5 and is independent of machine and headset, it tend to be a software issue.
Received an update to my 10.5.6 today, or rather a downgrade as 2006-02 is before Leopard was even released.

Seem to revert to an older set of codec. Could it be something that caused this problem? Anyone know if it's solved now? Haven't seen the problem since the update, but on the other hand it has always been sporadic.

Hi
I am jist trying out a bluetooth headset. It's a Jabra. I followed the easy instructions and it now appears as a choice on both my computer audio preferences and skype audio preferences. I have a macbook Pro with 10.5.6 OS.
It worked fine the first time i used it. It started to work the second time. then it suddenly cut out and my computer then had a message on screen to say that it couldn't actually deal with audio output. but it had the first time I used it and started to the second time I used it. The person I was ringing said it suddenly started to make a horrible loud screeching noise and she had to hang up as she could not seem to get me back. Both times I was ringing a landline through skype. I have a skype account.
Any thoughts??
I actually switched to this as I had been happily using a mic and speacker earpiece through the 2 sound ports and suddenly that stopped working - I could hear but not speak.
any thoughts on either of these problems or where to go for answers would be truly welcome
thanks

The thread goes on since september 2008, it may have taken them a bit to pick up on this. I wouldn't say ignored but it's coming close.

I don't mind paying a premium for my computers and OS and I also don't mind their 100$ a year for me.com and I think I can live with 100$ for biyearly OS and ilive updates .... but I expect a response ...If it was me only I would let it slide but if there is a discussion thread with 100+ entries and if you do a google search you will find many others having the same problem.
