iTunes 8.0 - Genius - unknown error 4010

iTunes 8.0 gathers data about my music library well enough and sends it to Apple too; but then 10-15 seconds into "processing" by Apple, iTunes stops and reports that "Genius results can't be updated right now. An unknown error occurred (4010)." I thought it might be overloaded servers and tried several more times in the hope of squeezing my request in between those of everyone else; but that didn't work; plus if it were a server issue I'd expect to see postings here from others with the same problems, and I'm not.

Any thoughts about what the problem might be?

John,
You are not alone. Same problem here as well. I am wondering if 29GB of library has anything to do with it, or is it just 500K people hitting the servers as well. I have fond memories of the old days when there were less mac users... 😉

Same here-- I've tried all the suggestions (quitting, repairing permissions, creating a new user and blank iTunes library, etc.) and nothing has worked.

If only I could figure out how to restart the whole process. It runs through step 1 really fast, and I have a hunch that I might get it to work if it were to re-analyze my library. Adding music or reinstalling iTunes 8 doesn't do it.

I've been getting a "network connection timed out" error on step three of the Genius process since downloading iTunes 8 yesterday. I have a music library of about 140gb not including movies, TV shows and Podcasts. I get about halfway through the 'Delivering your Genius Results' progress bar when it stops and gives the "network connection timed out" error.

I'm frustrated with this as my work MacBook Pro was able to get through the process in one try, and I was very impressed with the Genius playlists at the office. I want it to work from home though, that's where most of my music is.

Just for the record it took me four tries with 315gb of library to complete the "genius" up/download and be up and running. I attribute it to server loading, and I had to turn everything else off while doing it to open upload bandwidth. I must say I am impressed with what I see of the lists it makes though. Very interesting and useful for those like me with huge libraries and many dinner parties LOL.

I still see this problem. In step 2 (Waiting for Apple to process) after 15seconds I get the 4010 error.

I tried a whole lot of things:
- repairing permissions
- Removing all plugins
- Only iTunes running on the system
- removing the iTunes Library Extras.itdb and iTunes Library Genius.itdb files, so they could be rebuild
- Going over my account info (updating credit card info)
- Updating broken ID3 tags in my library (had some with UTF8 junk)

And nothing helped.

I'm a Belgian customer, so I connect to the Belgian iTunes store. Maybe there could be a problem there?

I'm wondering if there aren't two separate problems that have the same symptoms. Some people seem to be able to succeed just by trying a few more times to upload their info.

I've tried at least 50 times over the last day and a half, and have been unsuccessful every time. I have been successful, however, in uploading information from a small subset of my library. So, either there's an issue with the size of my library (42 GB), or there's a corrupt file somewhere in my library that's causing the problem. It seems unlikely at this point that just "trying again" is going to fix it for me.
