iPhone 3G 2.1 says no Sim Card

Hi, just finished downloading and intalling the 2.1 firmware update and everything was just fine, but after the update my iPhone 3G says "No Sim card inserted" and instead of signal bars i get this No Sim message.

So Restoresd via iTunes, After Restore it now a message on the iPhone appears saying "No sim card installed, insert and unlocked and valid SIM to activate iPhone". Could you help me please!

The last numbers of my DEAD sim card are:

3607F

Sorry for not posting before but I have to go to the phone company for another SIM card, now my iphone 2.1 is working correctly, but I have to wait 1 hour and have to pay for the new sim card because they don't know nothing about sim cards affected by the new firmware.

* If you have this problem and you can't go to your phone company, try with a sim card from the same phone company, with that sim card you would be able to use the iphone with another number meanwhile you go to replace the sim card.

* Also I try to downgrade to firmware 2.0.2 but I receive an error, the only solution to fix this problem is that you go to replace the SIM card because it is useless, it is fried.

* The iphone is locked if you restore after trying to downgrade to 2.0.2, try using a SIM card from the same phone company to unlock it and use your iphone 3G until you got a sim replacement.

I just updated my iTunes, then I updated my iPhone to 2.1 and BOOM,.... "No Sim Card Installed"....

What is this? Anybody knows? It seems that the update crashes the SIM card. That's not normal. Apple should do something for this. We have to go back to the phone company store and beg them for a new SIM. Maybe they are going to make us pay for that new SIM...who knows?
I hate to waste time like this...

Hi Guys.

You are not alone with this problem. I am in Melbourne, Australia and I have the same problem.
The funny thing is I successfully downloaded and installed firmware 2.1 on my personal Iphone 3g. Works perfectly and my 3g has 4 - 5 bars all the time now. Previously, there were only ever 2 bars maximum. The battery also seem to be holding pretty good.
This morning, I tried to install the 2.1 into my work Iphone and guess what, it fried my SIM card. I am using SIM cards from the same provider on both my Iphones. Got the same error message as you guys. Called Optus the service provider and was told the SIM got fried.
Put in my other SIM and the phone works perfectly. So, just go to your service provider and get a SIM card replacement. That's the only thing to do for now.
Cheers
