Mini DisplayPort to HDMI

Are they going to make this adapter? I know some TVs coming out do not have VGA or DVI, only HDMI now, so is apple going to make this adapter or will we need to buy the displayport adapter to DVI and then a DVI to HDMI adapter as well?

It's mind boggling that Apple left out audio from the most advanced AUDIO/VIDEO port available. To strip audio from a DisplayPort means they should NOT be able to call it a DisplayPort - mini - or otherwise. It's not simply smaller, it has HALF of the functions! It doesn't satisfy the specs and it's confusing the **** out of consumers! It should've been FULL DisplayPort or leave it DVI. Period! I want a Mac Mini to hook to my HDTV, but how am I supposed to get good audio? Spend several hundred on an amp and speakers? No! I simply won't buy the thing. Dell sells great monitors with REAL DisplayPort that handles AUDIO and Apple took that option away from its customers - why?

I just found and article about this topic.

http://www.engadget.com/2009/03/30/mini-displayport-adapters-now-available-for-2 0/#comments

Monopric.com create the adapter from MiniDisplayPort To HDMI for the new aluminium macbook. I believe that different hands can't create something better than Apple, but i have to used until Apple become or create something better.

PS: Apple, Im waiting for the adapter from MiniDisplayPort to HDMI from your company.

the rumors are true: the mini-displayport does not output audio.

While it should work in theory, the issue seems to be how the current chipsets handle video and audio together. While many have expressed some hope for a simple downloadable fix to turn on such a feature, the technology is still under development, and this capability may not be fully realized until the next generation chipset.

Until then, you will need an audio cable too.

This issue is not exclusive to Apple. All manufacturers using Displayport face the same challenge.

Just received the mono price mini display port -hdmi cord and i hate that it doesn't have sound... I have another problem though. I have the computer plugged in to a 50" Samsung TV and went into display setting and have both displays mirroring each other. I don't have the top Apple bar, Safari, File on my TV. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this?

Check your overscan setting in your Display settings (in Sys Prefs). It should be unchecked.

If this then leaves a black border around your desktop you may can either see if your TV has the ability to alter the image size, or if your TV is like mine then you may be able to find an overscan setting on the TV.

With my Panasonic I have overscan switched off on the TV and on on the mac, but for most folk switching off Overscan on the Mini should sort you out.

@dizzy13

One misnomer on the packaging:

+Support HDMI highest video resolution 1080p+

HDMI supports higher resolution than 1920x1080p. Dunno why they'd say 'highest' for...

Also, the bullet on HD multichannel audio is definitely misleading. Hopefully though, it's leading into some credence that this is a software issue that Apple need only remedy. I will buy this adapter immediately after it supports audio. Now, it's worthless to me.

I just received the Monoprice MDP --> HDMI adapter in the mail yesterday.

Connected the adapter from the MBPro to a 20ft HDMI cable and plugged it into my Sony 920 receiver.
Receiver has the HDMI output to the TV.

--Video looks great (make sure to turn off overscan)

As for video, i have the same issue as others on this board. If HDMI is present for a particular input, the SONY receiver will not allow an optical input, only analog inputs.

So i just got a Stereo Minijack to RCA cable to connect to the receiver's analog ports. Now i'm trying to figure if there is a mac utility to get audio to output from BOTH the internal speakers and the headphone jack.

ALSO.
I set my display preferences so that the menu bar (main screen) is always the TV, but if the receiver is not set to display the MBP video, the mac reverts the main screen to the laptop display. So, once i switch to MACBOOK on the receiver, the MBP screen becomes the second screen and the TV display's the main screen with dock etc....

I use AirMouse on the iPhone to control the mouse from the couch. I also use the app to launch Boxee or Front row.

The solution is really great for me.

Anyone know of an utility to choose BOTH internal audio AND Headphones?

Check this too....

I set my MacBook Pro display preferences so that the menu bar (main screen) is always the TV, but if the receiver is not set to display the MBP video, the mac makes the main screen the laptop display.

So, once i switch to MACBOOK on the receiver, the MBP screen becomes the second screen and the TV display's the main screen with dock etc....

I'm curious to see if the HDMI is plugged into a TV directly, the MBP will detect that there is no second display and allow you to use the laptop display.

this solution is great because all i have to do is swich to the input and the mac will make display switch for you without having to get up off the couch.
