I was simply saying it could be done, nothing is impervious to viri, if it was worth it, it could be done. Proof of concept proves that it could be done with some genius code work. You may be right that proof of concept doesn't mean it can be spread via macs, I'll concede to that, but certainly you agree that it could be done, I mean it's only code and any code can be hacked.
I agree, no OS is impervious, but what makes doing so worth it? Does a script kiddie or the scum that spend the majority of their time working on this get paid by someone, or is it worth it just for the fame that would be gained from their peers in the underground hacking world? I think it is the latter and as I already provided, what better way to gain fame in this regard than to be successful writing a virus for OS X. It would be all over the news wires and on the internet in a matter of hours if not minutes.
I didn't say it couldn't happen. I said it hasn't happened yet with OS X, which has been available for 8 years or so. 8 years is a lifetime in some regards in the computer industry. I don't buy into the security through obscurity talk and myth for if the only thing gained by doing so is fame and not fortune, I would think what a better way to gain fame? And it would be unique fame since no one else has done it - yet. I venture to say there are many working on this very thing and many more who have tried it and gave up.
I agree we should be careful about using an app that requires uploading contact information or any data to a developer's server, but installing such an app and doing so is by choice and a warning is provided. If this app makes you that uncomfortable, I would remove the app and quit using it, unless it performs a function that works without having to upload your iPhone's contact information to a server.
