Suitable RAM kits for Aluminium MacBooks

I just brought 4GB OWC RAM kit, i just change it. How to know the ram is problem. I got twice system freeze but both occur when i plug in the usb-hard disk and leave it a few minute. When without usb-hard disk plug-in, it works and no free freeze at all. I also tested Apple Hardware Test and no problem detect. Can anyone tell me what happen to my Macbook ?

I replied to gpotts in a different thread on the stability topic. I too experienced this phenomenon with Corsair RAM: http://att.macrumors.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=143297&d=1226129340 - and my theory for that issue is - the 9400M.

It's visual memory corruption, and the 9400M uses the 4GB of system RAM. What I also queried was whether this phenomenon occurs with the 9600M enabled which uses its own RAM.

I've already returned my RAM, so I can't test it, unfortunately.

If you put in the original 2X1GB of RAM or one of the new 2GB chips with one of the 1GB chips and it works without freezing you know for sure that it is the RAM.

This is true, but I am wondering if it's some kind of interaction between the 9400M, which uses the RAM, and the RAM modules themselves.

About a month ago, after a lot of trepidation reading this forums, I ordered the 4-gig upgrade kit from Crucial. It was under $90, and works flawlessly.

I've been reading through these threads, and the common theme with the ram problem is the 2 chip sizes. There are 200 pin and 204 pin chips out there. The aluminum macbook requires the 200 pin chip. I had problems when I first installed, but after clearing the p and vram settings, I have been running crash free for 2 months. Even with having 3.8 of the 4 gigs in use.

Installed the Crucial 4GB kit today and all working good so far.

I think you'll find the aluminium MacBook needs the 204 pin RAM which is what Im sure the official Apple doc tells you.

200-pin DDR3 doesn't exist. DDR2 is 200-pin.

The confusion is that Apple posted the wrong specs for DDR3 RAM early on and in all of the manuals and called it 200-pin.

Crucial 4gb kit did not work. It was in working order for about an hour. Put in sleep mode but had issues waking up, I had to hard shut down. Then widgets wasn't responding. Then placing the mouse pointer up would hide all windows.

Well, same problem here. I've bought the Kignston Kit (which says it's fully compatible with the macbook in his site...) and it works perfect at the beginning, but after some hours it crashed. But for example yesterday, it was running for more the 24 hours and nothing happens (except this morning that didn't want to wake up). Btw I have my power config in "Never shutdown" so i think this is not a problem of "sleep" or "hybernation".

Could it be solved in 10.5.7? I have read that people using bootcamp, never have this issue in Windows... so it must be an OS X problem.

Hi, first post here. But i've been reading through several threads prior to purchasing my MacBook and so far so good! I just finished installing the Kingston RAM upgrade and no problems yet. For information the model number is KVR1066D3S7/2G. Crossed fingers. Thanks.

It works.... until it doesn't.

Mine was all yesterday working, but by night... freeze again.

I have wrote an email to kingston europe and they say, that they can't give me support because it's a problem or in the macbook or in the OS.

P.D. Because they have tested it with a PC and it works perfectly.

Hope you can find a way around that. i'll keep knocking on wood but my classmate got the same notebook and the same ram as mine since december last year and he has had no problems yet. Im sure there are others who have had luck with it too. Did you have the Value-Ram as well?
