iTouch 2.2 software update problem

I just got an iTouch and it is running version 1.1.5 software. When I hook it up to my iTunes the program wants to update to 2.2, but when I try to do it the message says "There was a problem downloading the iPod software for the iPod "XXX". You do not have permission to access the requested resource." What do I do? Please help!

Its almost 4pm - I still get 403 forbidden. This looks to be not and outage, but apple wanting to prohibit users from updating.

If anyone knows what error 403 means, they know its a forbidden block error code. Standard internet.

Unless they have a mechanism in place that blocks users from updating if the server is full, then they need backup and replicating servers.

Yes, I also am having the same problem. I want to add another warning - my account is setup to use PayPal and when I checked email this morning I found out that iTunes had charged my PayPal account 6 times for the software update. This wasn't at all obvious during my failed attempts yesterday to download the software. Sometimes I got the screen saying "you already purchased this software, do you want to download it again for free?" and sometimes I just got nothing. Obviously I didn't try to buy the same thing multiple times and I never was able to download it. So... check your purchase history and see if this happened to you.
It's a real bummer not to get to play with my new $$ toy. Sigh. Apple really messed up this time. My daughter got a Zune for Christmas and is having a great time downloading music for free with her Zune Pass. sigh.

From another thread someone says the same thing happened last year. I guess they learned nothing. Or maybe they do this on purpose so people get multiple charges and don't bother to remove them? You would think if they could take the server down they could disable the charge link so you can't buy it until the bandwidth usage dies down a little.

Wow, this blows. Apple Help Desk wouldn't even talk to me, just kept telling me that my purchase of the iPod Touch was over 90 days old. Can't get an response to any email. I guess I'll just have to wait and hope that this all gets sorted out.

Oh, free tip: that page that tells you the neat litle details about the 2.2 update ... well, even though it SAYS "you have already purchased this, you can download it again for free," it really means, "keep pushing this button so we can keep charging you."

Apple, you guys fail at life.

this happens every year after xmas, its everyone in the world loggin on and trying to upgrade and use their itunes gift cards

it took me 2 days for my gift cards to get accepted and the first set of errors were telling me the card numbers were incorrect

the problem is that apple doesn't supply correct errors, they should just tell us the server is overloaded and to keep trying

it may take a few days but it will work eventually
