Since 8.1 came out, pluggin in my IPod Touch results in iTunes freezing up and it unfreezes when it's unplugged. I left it plugged in anyway and after about 5 minutes iTunes unfroze and began "Verifying iPod." It takes way too long and no one is going to sit through this kind of delay every time you plug in your iPod. Is there any fix or workaround or explanation for this behaviour?
having same problem... computer has 3gb ram + NVIDIA XFX geforce 9400 gt graphics card. + 3.2GHz processor, so no problems there. must just be itunes :S
Yep, me too. Why don't Apple appear to be doing anything about it? It seems pretty widespread, yet the problem is ongoing? Fairly disgraceful if you ask me. Does anyone have any remedy?
Hi! I have a 5th Gen 30GB iPod. I really had no issues with either my iPod or iTunes until 3 days ago when iTunes tried to verify and sync my iPod the moment I plug it in. Then a window would appear telling me that iTunes can't sync and then asks me whether to quit or don't quit. I've set my iPod to manually-manage and I'm worried iTunes would eventually be able to successfully autosync and all the songs from my iPod would disappear since there are no files in my library. Please help! I don't want to lose all those songs since I don't have any backup for them! Thanks in advance.
WEll i had the same problem, what worked for me was that i uninstalled itunes an installed the oldversion, once that happens everything works just fine, i also made it so that it wont sync with anything unless i make it. i solved everything
Unfortunately that doesn't work for me - the whole shambolic 'verifying ipod' lark freezes up my (brand new) computer completely and I have to reboot. Complete and utter ****, Apple. ****.
If I uninstalled and installed an older version, would I have to manually reload all my music?
I managed to revive my ipod touch (Generation 1) two times after pressing on the button that said that it needed to be restored and updated. But it took me about 10 hours of triyng to get it back to life and a lot of praying. I thought it was a problem of my ipod but now that i see your troubles i know i'm not alone. Well the itunes still wants me to press again the restores and update but i'm not gonna do that a third time. The problem is that it doesn't recognized the ipod o r that it has a problem writing to it , so now i have and ipod that only checks my email, and surfs the web, no music, no videos and no syncing with my pc. I hope apple solves this problem because for 545 bucks i paid for the 32 gb model I think I don't deserve a rotten apple.
This solution worked for me on my macbook.
1. Go to preferences -> Devices
2. Delete the ipod touch backup
3. Uncheck 'disable auto sync'
4. close out of itunes and make sure you ipod is not plugged in.
5. open iTunes with iPod unplugged
6. return to preferences -> Devices and check 'disable auto sync'
7. plug in ipod and manually click sync
