I added music by selecting the artist in the playlist selection, say 10 at a time, worked fine until one batch came up with the error, then I did it one at a time, narrowed it doen to one artist (Album) which has lost of featuring artists. If I searched the artist alone in itunes nothing is there but they is still a checkbox for that artist, I uncheked it and it is fine.

Seems always to relate back to the content and some error within that conent. Never known Tony Bennett to be so much trouble!

Way to go IATechGuy! Based on some of the other posts, it sounds like this is the root cause. I haven't tried this yet, but it I'll bet I'm in the same boat. I don't really use ITunes as designed for best use. I have never liked the ITunes browser/synch paradigm. I prefer to grab a set of songs and upload them manually whenever I feel like it. I have a total mishmash of songs from ITunes and other, older ITunes songs I've purchased and copied over from other computers, etc.

I give you a lot credit for ferriting it out. It's a relief to understand the issue. However not happy with Apple for such a buggy system, not being able to handle this simple thing. Although as a software engineer I can tell you that any type of synching of master to slave must be very well thought through to avoid all possible snares. I'm not looking fwd to spending hours debugging my own song set.

One thing I have found also, is that ITunes can't distinguish between two songs of identical length and title. I compose music using GuitarPro and export the composition to MP3, then upload it to my Shuffle Touch. Many times I want to tweak the mix and re-upload. When I do this Itunes does not replace the original file with the new one. It's tooooo smart, thinks it knows the file is the same, I'm guessing because of the exact length and title identical, even though date/time is later. Very frustrating.

Thanks for all your hard work.

Thank you,

I did find the same thing. If you buy from I tunes and try to load a CD for the same artist you will get two files of the same name. either AAC or MP3. You will need to get ride of one of the other.

Go to file and display duplicates. Then look to see how many you have. You can uncheck the duplicates to see if this takes care of your problem.

I had this error as well and none of the traditional fixes worked. Restore, deleting voice memo (not listed in ipod), changing accounts or unchecking rechecking music.

However I did find the root problem.

I went back through my music and synched one cd and download at a time. What I ran across is that one cd I had recently added to the library had a bad file and that particular one when checked would generate the error.

Error corrected itself when I deleted off this cd and re-added it to the library.

Hopefully above mainstream solutions work for most but if not check for bad music files. Most likely in something added recently especially by cd.

To jcdulaney, your solution fixed my problem thanks SOOO much. For anyone else, I found that everything else posted just made it come up with the same error repeatedly. But I remebered I had an album that was music recoreded from my TV and once I deselected that my ipod touch 2nd generation synced without a problem, which was a total releaf as I had tried about a million different things! Thanks again soooo much!!!

Aup everyone...I had this problem and could have easily wacked my iPod with a massive hammer.

None of the things worked for me, however....

When I plugged my iPod into the PC it said something like 'we have detected that you have songs on your iPod that aren't in your library' at first I pressed 'transfer these accross' and that's when all of the problems started.

Anyway, I somehow managed to get that message up again, and pressed 'do not transfer' and, as if by magic, it worked....and for 19, I'm rubbish with technology!!

N.B....things were worded differently, but I'm sure you get my drift!

I didn't go through what IATechGuy did but I felt his pain. I spent 2 nights and about 6-7 hours working on it. I tried just about everything over and over again. I should have checked these last two pages of this thread, it would have saved a lot of time. It is the manually manage music but I stumbled on it a different way. After going through all that headache, I thought to check the Music tab page to see if there was some song.....something.....somewhere, I was missing. Well, I scrolled all the way down and saw a box with with a song in it. I clicked on the song and clicked "remove". Started syncing one playlist at a time and IT WORKED! So happy. Thanks guys.
