Error 0xE8000065

OK so I was on 2.2.1 on my iPhone with iTunes 8.1.1 and everything was ok. I updated to 8.2 and updated my iphone to 3.0. At first itunes displayed a message saying my iphone was detected but couldnt be identified properly and said to disconnect and reconnect. I did so and now it says "iTunes could not connect to this iPhone because an unknown error occurred (0xE8000065). And everytime I unplug and reconnect iTunes displays this message, and sometimes it doesnt even recognize my iPhone. My pc recognizes the iPhone as a Camera(??) but iTunes does nothing... I also pluged my 1G iPod Touch and the same message is displayed... Can someone help??

This has been happening to me for a few weeks. Same error. Today after it happened again, I unplugged my lightning cable from one USB port in my computer and put it in a different port.

iTunes opened just fine and went through the backup process flawlessly.

Can't say why this fixed it, but it did.

I had the same error message and found that the USB sync cable I was using was the problem. I was using a retractable cable that was designed for the ipod/iphone. But when I used the brand new original cable I didn't get the error message. So it might be that the cable is damaged or one of the contacts are not making good contact. See if trying a different cable I had been using the retractable cable on my Ipod touch and just bought the Ipnone 4 and got that error message with it and that cable. I had some intermittend connection problems with the ipod touch, so I think mine is all in the sync cable. Just a thought.

I found these steps and went about the fix.....

1) open "run" from the start menu, and run "services.msc".

2)find "Apple Mobile Device".

3)In the "status" column it will tell you if the process is started or not, and the "startup type" column will tell you if the process will start automatically when windows starts. I think the goal here is to set the status to "started" and the startup type to "automatic".

4)To do this right click on this process, and then click on "Properties"

5) In the "general" tab find the "startup type" drop-down arrow menu and make sure "automatic" is selected. Select it if it is not.

6) Also in the general tab check the "service status". If it does not say "started" then click the start button.

7) at the bottom of the properties window click "apply"

then I also went to : iPod Service and change it to automatic also, mine was set on manual. This fixed mine

I want to extend a big THANK YOU to this thread and Community for help resolving an issue that's been bugging me for almost 1 year.

SETUP:

Windows 7 64 bit Ultimate / intel i5 750 / Asus P7P55D which was new Dec 09.

iPad from July 2010 which never reliably synched (although an iPod Nano was fine), so we used my daughter's Dell laptop for the iPad just fine...until she went to Uni.

ISSUES

Recently we needed to restore the iPad, so I tried again on the i5 machine without success despite following various advice from local Apple Store, Apple on-line help (loads), Apple phone support etc. Over the weeks I:

  • Changed USB ports from front to back,
  • Changed Apple cable 3 x,
  • Un-installed and re-installed iTunes,
  • Un-installed and re-installed iTunes plus Safari, QuickTime, Apple Mobile Device drivers, iPod Support, Apple Updater, Apple Common Files,
  • Stopped and Re-Started Apple Services,
  • Amended Device Drivers several times,
  • Ran iTunes Diagnostics (all OK apart from no iPad connected)
  • Got the local Apple Store to restore the iPad software,
  • Even got the local Apple Store to change the iPad iteslf because it was within warranty ⚠.

...But still a range of connectivity-related error codes

RESOLUTION

One of these errors was the "0xE800065" note, so I Googled it and found this string. At the bottom of page 1, is the suggestion to adjust the BIOS to set C-State to "Enable". I carefully did this and it looked like sync was working, but sadly still v slow, not complete and ultimately ineffective, but seemeed to point in the right direction. I then read later that a BIOS Upgrade might do the trick (and if not then I was planning to buy a PCI USB card). So I dug out the ASUS Utilities disk from the PC box in the attic, checked with the local PC shop that the BIOS settlings were default, and followed the simple steps to upgrade the BIOS from 0501 (1st listed) to 2003 (latest).

RESULT: For the 1st time in almost a year, it now looks like the USB ports are getting the correct power for the "fussy" iPad and it has synched correctly. Hurraahh! I have spent hours of late nights and seriousd chunks of working days on this, and it feels like a minor victory.

LEARN POINTS: 1) Surely this BIOS Upgrade solution for ASUS machines should be more prominent. 2) Surely Apple staff in the stores and on the phone could respect the reality that there are still quite a few PC owners out here?

I have the same problem though it's my iPad that went black and keeps spinning.

I wanted to shut down my iPad by holding the "shut down" botten for a few seconds. Right after the red slider appeared on the screen, and after I slided it went black and keeps spinning.

When I connect to iTunes I get the meassage 0xE8000065, and it can't connect.

Help Me!!!!!😢

Did u try doing a hard restart? Hold both home button and power until the apple logo appears. If not that you may want to restore it. You will need to put the phone in dfu mode. Do this by turning the phone off. Hold power button three seconds. Then while still holding the power button press an hold the home button. Hold these until the screen shuts off and then release the power button after 4 secs from when it shuts off. Hold the home button until the phone is recognized by the comp and itunes

Update to my previous post:

A. The reason the Apple store replaced the iPad was because it kept closing down sessions withough warning e.g Safari browsing or a game, but this still did not fix the connectivity issue.

B. As well as "iTunes could not connect to the iPhone (sic) because an unknown error occurred (OxE8000065)", I encountered a range of other error codes including:

1. "The iPad "xxx iPad" cannot be synced. A folder was specified instead of a file"

2. "The iPad "xxx iPad" cannot be synced. An internal device error occured"

3. "The iPad "xxx iPad" cannot be updated. An unknown error occured (9)"

NOTE: (9) = Error 9: This error occurs when the device unexpectedly drops off the USB bus and communication stops. This can occur if the device is manually disconnected during the restore process. This issue can be resolved by performing USB isolation troubleshooting, using a different USB dock-connector cable, trying another USB port, restoring on another computer, or by eliminating conflicts from third-party security software.: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3125

4. "iTunes has detected an iPad in recovery mode. You must restore iPad before it can be used with iTunes"

5. "iTunes could not connect to the iPhone (sic) because an error occured while reading from the device"

6. "The iPad software update server could not be contacted. Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active or try again later"

7. "The iPad "iPad" could not be restored. An unknown error occured (1611)

NOTE: (1611) = Error 1611: This error may indicate a hardware issue with your device. Follow the steps in this article. Also attempt to restore while connected with a known-good 30-pin Dock Connector cable, computer, and network to isolate this issue to the device. The MAC address being missing or the IMEI being the default value (00 499901 064000 0 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting 00 499901 064000 0 end_of_the_skype_highlighting) can also confirm a hardware issue. Out-of-date or incorrectly configured proxy or security software, such as FoxyProxy, can cause error 1611. To troubleshoot third-party security software, follow these steps.

8. Device driver software was not successfully installed

9. Device Manager showed: "Apple Mobile Device (Recovery Mode)" x 2

10. iTunes Diagnostics: Device Connectivty Tests: "No iPod, iPhone or iPad found"

Conclusion: many misleading error messages, and finding the solution took AGES!!!

C. I also uninstalled Microsoft Essentials Anti-virus and installed AVG Free, but it made no diffence so I reversed this

Hi frekvens, Re the spinning iPad; from my limited experience, it sounds like an internal issue with an iPad component requiring a a trip to an Apple Store.
