Can't send e mails using ntlworld server

Hi all,
I've been having probs with my gmail account on mail, so in an effort to fix this I deleted my accounts and set them up again.
Gmail works fine (though I still have the same issue), but NTL just won't send e mails.
I can receive ok, but it won't send.
I have checked my settings are as per http://www.virginmedia.com/help/email/troubleshooting/cant-send-mac.php

and they are all correct. It worked fine before I deleted everything.

does anyone have any ideas what I may have done wrong?

can someone tell me what authentication and ssl should be for definite?
